Add-on Oil Temp Gauge?

Hi all,

I just bought a 2000 Cagiva Gran Canyon, and it does not have an oil temp gage.  Been searching all over the interwebz for something smaller than a 2-1/6" automotive gage, but I'm not having much luck.  Anyone know where I could find an analog or digital oil temp gage that's smaller than the standard automotive 2-1/16"?  I don't have a lot of dash space to work with, so I'd like to find either a small rectangular digital readout, or a 1.5" or smaller analog gage.

Your help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
--Dan

1.  I hate you.  I want a GC.
2.  There aren't many options for this on the dash.  There is a guy who sells on Ebay a gage that goes into the oil filler hole.

http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=67&manufacturer_ID=871&product_ID=57255&sblid_name=Shindy_Digital_Oil_Temperature_Guage_____mm_x_P_____Adapter

This products functions the same as our water temp gauge. It comes with a variety of adapter sizes to fit most models by replacing the stock drain plug. Order by the size of plug threading. Adapter replacements available. The body size is L 76mm W 36mm H 16mm. The window size is 34mm x 15mm.

Not quite sure where to find one now- but Moto-detail made a gauge that replaced the filler pluig.

Dang, they're proud of that thing, aren't they?  $115?  Guess I gotta pay to play.  :-\

Hmm, need to brush up on my Google skillz.  I Googled "motorcycle oil temp gauge" amongst other variations... didn't see the one you found.

1)  ;)  I wanted a GC too... missed the last one in my area last fall.  Then this one popped up as the weather was getting good, so I snagged it last weekend.

2)  Yeah, I was looking at the oil filler ones as a last resort.  I'm not sure they'd work on a Ducati (since the plug doesn't have a dipstick, dunno if there's clearance down there), and it'd be unreadable while riding.

Who is Ed Milich and how do I get in touch with him?  I'm looking for the taller factory windscreen and the base that goes with it, mine came with the little lip spoiler one.  I'm 6'4", so I catch quite a bit of wind.  Downside to living in the Columbia River Gorge... I'm facing a stiff headwind about half the time.

I need to snap a few pics of the little red beasty... it's my resto-mod project.  ;D  It's a 1986 1.8L 8v.  The paint looks deceptively good from those angles... the passenger door lacks clearcoat (so it's fading), the roof has has the peeling clear scraped off, and I'm in the process of removing trim and prepping the car for a repaint.  The interior is in great shape, and it has a set of factory Recaros out of a later Mk2.  Mechanicals are where this car shines, and it's gonna get better as the year goes on.  ;)  Currently has too many mechanical mods to list, but coming up soon: Koni coilovers, Autotech upper front strut tower brace, and a transmission rebuild with a Peloquin diff.  Probably also getting the Weber sidedraft carb treatment.  [evil]  Fun times!

Looks like Koso makes one as well; little bit cheaper than the Daytona.

duc-fan,

Check the fuel hose that attaches to the pump, under the "skid-plate".

They get pretty decrepit, I just about had a heart attack when i looked at mine.
If it starts leaking, *all* of your fuel will be on the ground.

Are your fork legs pitted?

PERFECT!  That's almost exactly what was looking for, and reasonably priced, too.  Thanks!

Thanks for the heads-up on the fuel hose.  On a weekend in the very near future, I will be basically pulling all of the plastics to check conditions of all fittings, hoses, and wires.  It is an 11-year-old Italian motorcycle, after all.  ;)  I'm gonna end up ordering the metal quick-disconnects from Desmotimes and replace them pre-emptively just to be safe, too.

Checked the fork legs before buying, and they look and feel smooth.  The forks are probably overdue for a servicing though... minimally new oil and seals.  I think I'm gonna throw some Traxxion Dynamics springs in there for good measure, so they're the proper rate for my 225+ pound self.  When I have them apart, it's also getting neoprene fork gaiters to protect them from the less-than-perfect environment I live in.

On my long-term list, I also want to fab up a real aluminum skid plate.  The plastic POS that's on there is little more than cosmetic.  I've gotten some good ideas from a GC skidplate build thread on ADV Rider, here.

By the way... ducatiz, GC for sale, here   ;)
