If they adjust it so that it's only set off by deafening bikes (Harley straight pipers), then I'm all for it. Seriously, the straight pipers here in MKE can ruin your day, make the beast with two backs 'em!

Fixed it for you
I know my Monster was loud, but I rode as quietly as I could in Suburban areas or in places that might piss people off or if possible I would avoid those areas all together, seems a decent section of the Harley Brigade can not seem to exercise self control when it comes to making excess noise in built up or heavily populated area's.

The louder the pipes on the Harley, the less you hear the guy in the parking lot talking about his Harley. One annoying sound just drowns out another annoying sound.

reality for a second...with Speed Camera's, you see them and slow down appropriately and once you are clear of the photo zone, you accelerate away.... that is what EVERYBODY does with them...with a Noise Snare...you simply roll up with enough power and
(a)
pull in your clutch lever and roll off the throttle and once you are clear, pop the clutch and roll the throttle on out ( probably making more noise than before ) or you
(b)
shift up a gear or 2 to lower your RPM's and lugg it through the zone'd area and just keep on rolling...

Funny cause all the Ducati "purists" I know tell me that my boomtubes make the bike sound like a Harley.

The stock pipes actually have engraved letters on each of them that they are compliant with the EPA noise regulations.. But yeah, its not worth spending a day in court to fight it.. Like said above, pull in the clutch and roll until you pass it.

and the Harley bashing continues
There are many sport bikes that are louder if not more obnoxious than many Harley riders.
In today's world with declining revenue and ridiculously short budgets I doubt many Cities will make the effort to pay for such systems.

That's not true, by any stretch.
When a new "revenue generating" source arrives on the market, economically deprived cities jump at the chance to get more $$$ into the coffers.
It takes citizens a while to figure out where all the traps are located at (worse if they are mobile), and adjust their behavior to prevent the wallet drain, plus get the word out to their friends.
So, in that first year or two, the city/county/state gets an increase in revenue they normally don't get.
A Police officer can't stay at an intersection handing out tickets 24 hours a day, to every single person that blows the light. A machine, however, can.
So a volume related ticket machine gives a whole new type of revenue that a city currently doesn't get, and gets it 24 hours a day. Plus, it can't discriminate between bikes, cars, trucks, or anything else. It hears too much noise, it takes a picture, and someone reviews it.

over 50% of my work is with Government entities, trust me, they will not add this to the budget anytime soon when they can write hundreds of tickets on improper lane changes, speeding, no blinkers and so many more things. Bikers are but a minute percentage and most fiscal years start September 1, 2011, thus it's too late since most budgets are already approved.

not about bikes, because the fart-can-civic-fast-and-furious-wannabee's are just as guilty as any straight/loud pipe running bike....and as far as revenue generation and these types of devices....take a look at municipalities that balked at the costs of speed and red light cameras and now are installing lots and lots of them as they are automated revenue generators that bring in big bucks with relatively low overhead/operating costs!

As far as loud pipes go, I have run just about every exhaust set up I can on my s2r 800 and now I am using a marving midpipe and stock cans. I feel as if I am not noticed nearly as much simply because I can not be heard. Now I know that is no legal defense but it sure makes me feel safer.

But now for the real reason I wanted to write...heard this the other day.
What is the difference between a Harley and a Hoover vacuum? In a Hoover the "dirt bag" sits inside!

If the EPA wants to really party and raise money
they might want to tackle the Landscaping crews and their make the beast with two backsing leaf blowers with the worn-out muffler packing
They drone on for hours not just blast past in a few seconds
that is my idea of a national noise pollution problem
