I bought a pair of these off ebay:

They are beautiful.  They are anodized though, which means fade over time, but for $15 each, I am very impressed with the cnc quality.  I asked the seller to check into finding better fade-proof black and he is looking into it.

I got nothing in it.  They just look nice and are well done.

But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I purchased my gas cap from him and it did not even make it 3 months before fading from black to orange. I know anodizing fades, but that was way too quick.

Scuff it up and spray paint it.

Travman...Only one small problem, spray paint will last right up until gas gets on the gas cap; which will inevitably happen... ;D

I had a similar gascap on my buell blast. I used duplicolor metal cast to give it an anodized smoke look. worked great, and was gas resistant. It held up for the 4 months after I painted it. I sold it after that. Probably still looks good.

It's a brake fluid resevoir cap not a gas cap.  [cheeky]  I get your point though, brake fluid wouldn't be good for the spray paint job either.  I am always surprised how well spray paint holds up.  I spray painted some rusting bolts that were used on my Harley exhaust.   It has held up for four years.  I spray painted some black anodized parts like my sprocket cover because they had turned purple.  I figured I could have them powder coated later if I ever did a batch of other items.  Well that was a couple of years ago and it still looks good.

will it fit the cups they use at parole check-in?

Other than the crappy anodizing, how is the gas cap?  I like the idea of a keyless cap, but am worried about it being loose when riding...

The gas cap is quite well machined, and I have never had it loosen. There is a rubber seal that keeps it tight. I also am somewhat of a perfectionist, and the alignment is really good when closed. Mine has the single finger bar that when fully closed, lines up horizontally. I do believe that powder coating is it its future.

Nice, that settles it for me.  My stock cap looks like shite and while I am fixing my tank I want to replace it.  That seller has a silver anodized gas-cap up, shouldn't have to worry about that fading.  Thanks for the info.  [thumbsup]

I have that same silver gas cap.  Very happy with it.   [thumbsup]

That's what's impressed me the most, the machining is perfect.  I can recoat it later.  I'd prefer the anodized look, but I'll live with it.

I know all ano'd parts will eventually fade, but has anyone used any of the anodized parts from SSR?  I like their quality from what I've received, but all my stuff is 'clear'.  Anyone have their fade?
My fast lap is your sighting lap.

i've got a black-anodized SSR offset reverse-shifter -  design loosely inspired by the CycleCat DSL-2 shifter and prompted by repeated and likely annoying requests on my part.

Had it since before they were for sale - I got the very first one. So well over a year - well, well over a year - I don't think 2 years yet though - the anodized Black is still black - no complaints from me. I expect it to start its slow fade to purple or brown in the future, but so far I'm impressed at it holding up this well for so long.

The best "black" anodizing I've seen is Rizoma's black, which is something more than simple black anodizing, but this one isn't bad by any means.

Travman

Now that you mention it, I can't recall ever seeing any black Rizoma parts that have faded and Rizoma parts are fairly common to see on Ducatis.
