rear sets dont improve performace as in measured HP that would affect power to weight and put it out of the LAMS
if you were to say take away the restriction then that is a mod that would remove LAMS
eg resticted hyosungs can be desrestricted by the dealer , they then notify the RTA and it can never be a LAMS bike again
Forgive my ignorance, I thought 'rear sets' were pipes (mufflers).... just googled them to find out they are the gear changers and foot pedals... can someone explain why you would change the Ducati ones? Is there something wrong with them?
Changing the pipes would be a mod I couldn't do if I wanted to keep it LAMS.

I can see you have a lot to learn
You have spent your hard earned, on what is basicly to many on this forum is called a blank canvas.
There is nothing wrong with your motorcycle what so ever.
Untill you catch Bling fever then your life will never be the same again, well your wallet anyaway.
Spend a little more time around here and on the main board and you will get the drift

No problem Rob S, that's why I'm here; to learn.
I'm focused on learning to ride the thing first, then I might venture into pulling it apart but it won't be any time soon. I really like the bike the way it is at the moment, but we'll see... give it time I guess...

Thanks DinoM659, I have bought the same bike as you (mine is black though), I'm told it should be ready on Friday
How does the ride feel so far? How's the sound?

Hey Ducm3, wow a black one! I thought about getting it in black but the dealer only had one red one left on back order and I would've had to wait if I wanted black so that kind of made the decision for me. But I'm still very happy with the red!
The bike is so easy to ride. I thought I might be a bit intimidated jumping on a bigger bike straight up but it is no problem at all. I'm tall with a large frame so I needed something substantial to ride and I don't think I could have picked a better bike. Seems to have plenty of torque and I don't need to drop gears too often to ride up hilly streets around town. The light weight of the bike is a real bonus, it makes it so easy to handle.
Also I thought the low seat might be a problem but it seems OK to me.
The sound is something else! I love the sound of it, it just burbles along and sounds really throaty at times. I'm sure you're going to love it!
Post up some pics when you get it...
Cheers

Don't listen to anyone on this forum Dino. Your bike is fine just the way it is. Until you start hanging around here and thinking otherwise of course. This place is a bad influence on the wallet.

Changing the pipes would be a mod I couldn't do if I wanted to keep it LAMS.
that is quite debateable
the main issue with LAMS of larger bikes such as yours is that they are restricted
if you remove the restriction throttle stop, ecu or however they restrict it then it would no longer be a lams bike

i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.

Picked up my M659 yesterday. All I can say is......what an amazing bike.
I've only ridden it the 10km or so home as I wanted to avoid the rain. But my initial thoughts, compared to my previous bike (Honda CB400) are (bearing in mind I'd never ridden a Ducati before):
1. The exhaust note -
. I found myself switching the engine on in my garage a couple of times last night just to hear it again.
2. The torque - very different to the CB400. I can comfortably cruise at 60 km/h in 4th doing around 4K whereas to do the same in the CB400 the revs would be around 5.5K in the same gear. This is something I look forward to getting used to.
3. The riding position - seems lower and more forward. I'm only 175cm tall so I've found the position more suited to my frame. Hopefully I'll feel the same way after a long ride.
4. When you take off from 1st, there's a little vibration and shake - I assume this is normal? It's not as smooth as the CB400 on take-offs but I assume this is a characteristic of the L-twin engine?
5. Did I mention the exhaust note?
I was lucky that they had a short tail kit in stock so I had this fitted. Pics to follow!

Great news.
New bike + rain = Boooooooooooooo
In regards to vibration shake on take off. Give it time. Its a brand new clutch. Plus you are also getting use to it. So in time and with some wear it will be alot smoother for the both of you.
(wait til you put on some nice termis and remove the baffles. Now thats a note!!!)
Enjoy!

Check my earlier post. The CB400 was a great bike, it will definitely suit your requirements especially if you use it as a daily commuter. It's economical, has decent grunt, looks good and is easy to ride.
BUT
The M659 has soul and character. It's also easy to ride. I've only had mine for a few days so I really need more time to properly assess it. But my initial thoughts are that it's a much more exciting ride. And it's also a more expensive proposition. So you really need to think about what you are going to use it for. I don't use mine as a daily rider, it's more of a weekend toy.
And the 659 has an exhaust sound that you will never, ever get on the CB400.

Cheers, thanks heatherp...
I'll be leaving it stock for a good while yet. I'm not sure this is the bike I want to make major mods to while I'm just starting out in the sport.
I can say that it's an excellent learner bike for those wanting one. I've clocked up over 600kms already and have found it so easy to ride. No complaints so far and it has more than enough power for me right now.
