weather rant

Rain, rain, go away!
Come again some other day.
This unusually cool weather is wreaking havoc on typical plans this time of year such as
*bbq and swim parties
*daughter's softball games/playoffs
*but more importantly, MOTO RIDES !
I'll admit I'm a fair weather rider, but come on already. Mother Nature, please turn off water and turn up the temps.
Ciao!

I was out of town and wouldn't have been able to ride anyways...on the upside, rumor has it that it got to 90 degrees F where I was at. Sometimes life throws a gal a bone once in a while.

I just rode to Tahoe...
In a freezing rain and snow storm. My coldest ride ever.
Weather forecast was "maybe rain" the next day. Last minute decision we decided to risk it and ride.
That was not fun. I had to stop and knock an inch of solid ice off my boots, lights, and helmet.
There was a moment there where I really didn't know what was going to happen next. At 8,000 feet, bikes barely running complaining from altitude, NO ANTIFREEZE, no cell reception, no shelter and 29F soaking wet in a snow storm. Road freezing by the second. Nothing to do but to let air our of the tires to get through the snow and keep our arses moving. Totally nuts.
That's going down in history as one of the craziest moments on a bike I've ever had.
Here: Tahoe in JUNE! View from the deck when we finally arrived. It dumped almost 8 inches on us!

You know there's this thing called "turning around", right?

Holy shit!
Desmostro, I'm really glad you made it safe and sound.
So...are you going to wait for the temp to increase before riding back??

You know there's this thing called "turning around", right?
The road goes to 8,000 then back down to 7,000, then up to 9,000. We had no idea it was going to do that, but once we realized it we were past the point of no return. The storm was coming in from behind us. It was way worse that way and it was up into colder in every direction. We ended up beating it over the pass. We got over 9,000feet to the down hill and it dried out. 29F but dry. We hit the house and BLAM the storm was on us 2 minutes after.
The snow wasn't that bad. The freezing rain was FUGGING BANANAS. It was hitting the road making steam like it was boiling. Drops hit my mask and turned instantly to ice. So bizarre! Visibility was 10 feet. That was miserable. We had to ride with masks cracked open with freezing spears in the face so we could see at all.
The next day it melted by noon like it didn't happen. We road home on dry sunny roads.
Something to remember. Anything can happen in the mountains. Squaw Valley Ski resort says they will be open until July 4th. They got more snow last night.

That is some hard riding....
I'm here in Klamath Falls at 4,000 feet. Two days ago the weather just turned to spring. It was my first ride in many months.
