Used to weigh 175 with gear, now 200. Changed the Eibach 9.8 for the stocker. Less preload, more plush, but restored ride height and more even suspension action. I'm guessing the stocker is about 12kg at stiffest section?

Time for the old fart smiley..

I don't think the stocker is even that heavy on the stiffer part....at most a 10 I think. You have a hoop style frame don't you?

My stock spring didn't work worth squat for me and I'm about 185 is street clothes...200 in gear.

An Ohlins 10.0 on an Ohlins shock is the ticket for me.

Sounds strange, mine was soft as cheese, totally awful (was around 90 kg then).
Had to have too much rebound just to stop the rocking chair/custom feeling.
A Öhlins 95Nm on it was a good improvement and even better of course is my serviced Öhlins shock from a 851 w the 95 spring.

I'd add that to the forum but the kids would torture me with it.  ;D

The Eibach is a 550 pounder, thats about 9.8 kg? The stocker is definately harder on 80% of the spring. Wonder if previous owner swapped a 888 Showa spring (if it would fit).

Certainly appears identical to Oz delivery 900 hoop style springs.

Any insights guys?

My take...

The stock spring makes things feel harsher, not stiffer.

My experience is a stiff spring is smoother than a too soft spring.

Hey GM
A big mofo Viking needs a big mofo spring! [evil]

What was delivered standard rear in Oz?
Sachs/Boge? W Euro spec spring or what?

I have been told that the Sachs/Boge delivered to Oz had a progressive spring with something like an 8.5-11 or 12kg rate. Its certainly firmer than the 9.8 spring that was there. I agree with DP about carrying the weight better and more compliance with a stiffer spring with less preload. It required less preload to achieve a better sag number and restore ride height.

I mean't no offence, you just get mental picture of each member. [evil]

Perhaps the Oz bikes were fitted with a stiffer spring.

I'm with dp on this one, US springs on the hoop-style Monsters aren't anywhere near an 8.5-11.

Maybe. I'm not sure if there was a difference in Euro spec to US spec or whatever. Or if there was an Oz spec. We often got a Euro spec down here.

Anyhow, it's an improvement, a surprising improvement, as I often equate stock with inferior. :P

Brad might know. I gotta get some oil from him Monday so I'll ask him then.
