Author Topic: *Crest road officially CLOSED*  (Read 3700 times)

Just heard today that the Crest has been officially closed to all traffic of any kind starting at mile marker 2 (just past the last turn off to any residence).

Us Forest service is working in conjunction with the state DOT and they have most likely already barricaded the road and will likely have rangers stationed at the barricade (especially over the blaze of glory weekend) to keep people from accessing the area.

So that pretty much leaves S14 to have any fun on locally and that road is usually tied up with bluehairs.   Undecided

Also closed are ALL Albuquerque open spaces, including the foothills open space and the entire Bosque.

Although it royally sucks that everywhere fun is now closed, I really understand why.

I would say that this calls for a Jemez or Taos run  Dolph

From what I understand Highway 4 is closed down a few miles after you hit Jemez Springs, and the fire is not contained at all right now.

Here's an update on the fire: http://nmfireinfo.wordpress.com/2011/06/28/las-conchas-fire-update-june-28-2011-1130-am/

Over 60 thousand acres and 0% contained...

the road that is left is Taos..

I guess we will have that Taos ride we did over memorial day weekend... 300+ miles  Dolph

I would google map it, but it's cooperating with me  Sad

If DJD wants to wait until next weekend for tires I can do the Taos run with you guys on Saturday.  If he wants to go ahead and get tires this Saturday I can do the Taos run with you guys on Sunday.  Monday I'm probably going to CAD to eat a few of Butch's 4th of July hot dogs and hamburgers.

What's the plan, yo?!?

It's a damned shame that the Park Service can't trust folks to drive up to the Crest without pitching cigarette butts out their windows or stopping mid-trip to cook over a campfire.....but they can't.  People are sooooooo stupid.

If the plan is to do the run on Saturday... yeah, I won't be able to go. 300+ miles on my tires is probably not a good idea.  Sad

Well it depends on what everyone else wants to do, if they're gonna hit up Taos on Saturday I'm not gonna hold you back, that's silly.
