ALL THE WAY!!!!

« on: July 11, 2011, 02:09:33 PM »

I posted here earlier about what bike to get and shortly after I put a deposit down on a Monster 796 ABS at the dealer in Austin. Well I didn't realize how much of a demand there was for the 796. The dealer didn't have one and had just one more coming in at a later date. And couldn't find a dealer that was willing to release one to sell. So I canceled my order because I have a time limit to get one and can't wait months for a new one to come in.

So I started calling around other dealers and emailed private seller listings on Cycletrader and once on Craigslist. I got no where real fast on all of this so I looked on ebay. I  wanted something for sell in Texas so I could get someone to go get it for me. But I was quick to find out 796 ABS Monsters aren't something you see on Ebay very often. So I checked multiple times a day and then about 2 days ago this popped up in Texas.
                                                                                                                                                               http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140574738797&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT .

At the time of the listing the guy had described the bike pretty vague and didn't say it had ABS or didn't but had it like a extra part that you could buy if you wanted. Obviously this guy wasn't familiar with Ducati's and didn't realize they have ABS or they don't its not a part you just buy later and put on when you feel like it. After a email and a quick reply he explained he was selling this for his 70 year old friend who was down sizing his life. He admitted that he was mistaken on his description and clarified for me it has ABS.

So right when i got the warm and fuzy I clicked the pay it now button and got this 2011 Red Monster 796 ABS for just a tad over 9k. I think I got a great price for it and am extremely happy with it. I am even more happy I am now back into the Ducati clan after my brief exodus when my ex sold my monster 620.

Just wanted to share how me and my Monster 796 met and how it was just love at first sight....LOL

Whoa, site-unseen ebay purchases scare me.  Especially when the seller looks to be selling all flea market items under $100.

Have you taken delivery yet?  How about some photos!?

I can go take a look at it for you.  Send me a PM and work it out with the seller and I will gladly inspect the bike.  Congrats.

Probably will be just fine. The guy's been on the bay since 1998. Sometimes you just get lucky.

I didn't know Ebay was so flaky do lots of people have bad experiences on it. I was thinking Craigslist would be more like that since there is no rating system or anything to keep someone from just posting pics of a fake bike to sell. I did just email the guy and ask him to take some pics for me. I really doubt this isn't a legit deal the shipping company already contacted my friend in Waco about delivery of the bike. But you never know what can happen I suppose. Watch my friend get some beater bike instead of the 796 when its delivered....LOL

I'm sure it's fine.  His ranking is excellent.  I'm just paranoid and don't want to see a fellow member be disappointed.  If it were me I would've driven all night in a uhaul to pick it up.  Aren't you in the same state?

I would of done that too but I'm not in the same country right now. I'm currently in Afghanistan and will be on R&R soon so thats why I want the bike and couldn't wait for a dealer to get one.

Take up 'skrat on his offer. He lives here in the DFW area too. He knows what to look for. He'll know if it's BS or not.
