So finally got the pictures uploaded from the accident.  The whole front end is mangled in to one degree or another.  Needless to say I need a new top and lower triple, forks, potentially a frame, front wheel, headlight bracket, rearset and CF front cowl....

All of my gear held up but I feel like I need to get a new helmet just because i can't remember whether my head hit the car or not or whether when I took it off I dropped it on the ground out of sheer anger (guessing thats not a good thing either).

Double check with your ins - but many times gear is covered in the event of an accident.

If you have not, you might take it to a shop and have them do a run through. Good chance, even disregarding the frame damage, that the bike is a total loss due to cost. if you do have a shop go over it, it'll cost you some, but have them give you the list/estimate - not insurance. You can always give it over later if you want to. But if they send it off, then the ins process has begun.

Of course, gather the receipts for you mods or find them online and print a copy of the vendors page to show the price.

Though it sucks a ton - your body isn't damaged, and that's a big win

Uggghhhh! That's ugly!

I vote replace the helmet...better safe than sorry. I'd never want to be in a situation where that little bit of stress from a previous incident was the difference between scrambling my egg or not.

Both myself and the other driver have State Farm Insurance, which I feel is a conflict of interest.  I've never been in an accident of this nature in almost 20 years.  

Ducatiz, since i hear you are the resident legal guru - can I ask you what the insurance company will try to do.  My policy is an MD policy, the driver of the BMW is NJ and the accident took place in DC.  At the end of the day, all I want is my bike fixed 100%, for them to pay for all my medical bills, potential PT for my ankle and hand and missed work.  What's that worth at the end of the day.  If this should be a offline e-mail, I can send you a private message.  

As it stand my bike will be totaled.  I tallied up everything that needs to be purchased minus labor and it's way more than the value of the bike (close to 10K).  

I just want to put this behind me, heal and get back in the saddle and riding again!

Thanks for the advice Panda. Bike is currently en route to Battley's for an estimate. From the stuff I knew was broken to replace is as follows:   

S2R1000 forks are - $2800.00
Triple Assembly - $895.00
Tallboy Handlebars - $289.00
Front Rim - $1367.00
Rearset - $565.00
Headlight - $149.00
RF1000 - $300.00
Frame is $3200.00

I will most likely buy it back from the insurance company, buy either a 800 or 1000 and move over the necessary parts.

That tally will probably go up. There's probably a number of small items that will need to be replaced and there's the labor too. But based on the numbers above, it's a pretty sure thing it'll be totalled.

Autohag might be one to tap for info also. He got cut off last year and totaled his 696. So he can probably give you a 1st hand narrative, and 'tiz can give you more of an academic perspective.

Your bike will be totalled.  You can pm me for more details, but a lot of people get the bike totaled, then buy it at the salvage price to get parts etc. 

If you have full coverage, you can negotiate a bit more.

My feeling is that this is a good thing. You don't have to deal with State Farm arguing with itself. I had a 916 totaled (it was parked) and both the driver and I had State Farm and the process went quick. Often I hear about cases with Ins Co X vs Ins Co Y and things drag out because of communication delays, differences in what each side claims the vehicle is worth, etc. If you've been a State Farm customer for those 20 years that will help too.

The other thing to do is not to accept their first estimate if it seems low. I told the adjuster they were low on my 916, provided him with 2 CL listings and an eBay (ended) auction as proof of market value and they gave me an addl 500$. Not thousands more, but 500 bucks is 500 bucks.

Got the damage report from Battley's.  Total damage with labor $24K, NADA value for bike $4400.00.  Time to spend some quality time haggling with State Farm over how much the aftermarket parts increase the value of the bike. 

Once things are settled with them, think I'm gonna go out and pick this one and begin the love process all over again!

Only thing that gets me about it is the poster says it's a 796cc engine.  I though the S2R's had the 803cc engine...Plus side it's tangerine with a black stripe and has the Leo Vince exhaust I want.

As far as I know the 796 (monster or hyper) displaces 803 cm3 not 796.

24K? Wow... I'd love to see the tear sheet on that... But with the replacement costs of OEM duc parts it gets brutal fast. Tank 1200, (stock) slip ons 1600... etc. I'm curious how they got all the way to 24 grand, but totaling your poor ride was a sure thing.

Thanks...Hopefully the force will be with me. The adjuster is calling Battley's to understand how much the big ticket items increase the bike's value over stock.

New adjustable forks - $2500.00
New Tank $1900.00
New Frame - $3500.00
Speedymoto Upper and Lower Triples - $900.00

And the list goes on.....Some of the stuff is cosmetically damaged but fully functional.

The State Farm guy just laughed when he read it and was like you totaled this and 3 other bikes as well.

Some of the OEM prices are nuts... as you can get a set of better than stock wheels for $1300 new. Likewise forks, calipers etc etc... The irony of OEM parts. The big ugly cans on a DSS monster are about $800 each to get OEM replacements. On ebay, $50-100 for a set.

Hopefully you can get a good price once the aftermarkets are figured in.
