Boot keeps getting "stuck" on footpeg
«

I have a 09 696 with the stock footpegs. In 2 instances, I almost dropped the bike because I couldn't get my boot off the footpeg to keep the bike upright. The heel of the boot gets stuck on the footpeg and it is difficult to try and lift the leg up and back while 400 lb of bike is on its way down. I also have some difficulty shifting because the gearshift is too short. I adjusted the gearshift to the max length and feel it could be extended/raised another 2"-3" for a more ergonomic position.
I wear size 11.5 US / 46EUR Alpinestars Supertech R (normally size 12 boots/shoes), and the heels are very thin. But the angle of my feet/legs on the bike can cause the heel to get "stuck" against the OEM/stock footpeg. I looked closely at it, and think it is a combination of the heel height (which is short) and the pattern of the stock footpegs. I always ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs, but I find myself sliding the boot off the peg and the heel catches on the peg. I'm also 6 feet tall, not unlike Simoncelli's dimensions.
Has anyone else encountered this or experienced it? Aside from "practice" or getting used to it, what can I do? I am not in love with these crappy OEM footpegs but I don't want to spend $800 on a new rearset either.

Sorry no help with the Duc stock pegs. But I can relate. I have Vortex rearsets on a couple of my Jap sbks and their serrations on the pegs are VERY pointy and sharp. All good at keeping your boots on the pegs while riding. But I've had a couple of pucker up moments at stop lights and signs when my Sidi boot sole gets momentarily "stuck" on the sharp peg when it needs to be moving. Gets your attention pretty damn fast.

well from my perspective not being able to 'slide' your boot off the peg is the point of the peg grip
try lifting off the pegs.
also you can get aftermarket pegs, but most of them are even grippier.

What portion of your foot are you resting on the peg? You mention your heel getting hung up.
You should have the ball, or just slight behind the ball resting on the meat of the peg.

Both. When riding, it is the ball on the peg. When coming to a stop or just mounting, I seem to have a tendency to jam the heel against the peg because a lot of the motorcycles seem to be designed for short people with small feet? I learned my lesson about riding and cornering with my foot too far forward - my toe sliders would always contact the ground so I make a conscious effort to keep the ball over the peg. But If I have to use the rear brake or downshift into 1st, my heel tends to jam against the peg.

Oop - didn't note your balls of the feet comment in your original post.
You're only a touch bigger than me - roughly 1" and 1/2 shoe size and I've never had issues like you describe on any bike. Not on the 3 monsters I've ridden, not on any of the demo or borrowed bikes either.
It is possible that you need to do some adjustment to the position of foot levers - equally possible that it's something with your body mechanics that's an issue... or both. Unfortunately, it's super hard to diagnose something like this on the internets. It's take a minute or two with you on the bike, on a stand to see how you move. But with no real visuals... I'm at a bit of a loss.
But I'll try. I don't ever end up with my heel jammed against the peg. Is your foot sliding forward under the conditions you mentioned?

i'm about 6' tall and i'm using size 44 sidi's and i've never really had a issue like yours.
how are you taking your feet off the pegs? it sounds like you are sliding them forward to get them off... i normally slide them off to the side as opposed to forward. when you say you are jamming your heels into your pegs, are you doing it on purpose? is it because you are really tense on the bike? i remember that you were the one that posted about death gripping the controls... if you're tense all over, you might not be in the best position to move your feet around either.

the other thing, for stopping you shouldn't be shifting into first coming to the stop.
you should be able to take your left foot off earlier so as to not take it off at the last moment.
or right if you don't use your rear brake like some.
either way, once at a stop... is too late for preparing to plant your foot

I will try sliding them sideways. I don't tense up my feet, the heel just slides forward sometimes because it gets into a more comfortable position. The more I think about this, the more I think it probably is just how I slide my feet off - a Superbike or other sport bike would have a more aggressive knee bend.
BTW I really improved the death grip issue, now I'm riding for 30+ minutes and my hands/arms/wrists feel fresh.

Do you come to a stop with your foot beneath the gear shifter (as if you are trying to find neutral)?

Here is something that I'm surpised nobody has touched on. You said you run out of shift lever adjustment? Did you actually take the lever arm that comes off the splined shaft and re-adjust that, if not try it one tooth or two at time in the desired direction, and then use the link to make fine adjustments.

I've only gotten stuck on the right side (rear brake side) a few times with the bike about to crash down. I was told to keep my foot on the rear brake when at a stop, but I've had it get stuck when mounting the bike or when I am dismounting on the right side as well. When I wear my sneakers (not when riding, just for sitting on the bike or moving it around) it isn't a problem since there's no heel.
I did mention adjusting the gearshift. It is maxed out and I'd prefer another 1" or so of adjustment, but it isn't happening with the stock adjustment tie rod. When upshifting, I have to get ready well ahead of time because I need to dig under the lever.

Do what the previous post said. Take the lever arm off the spline shaft that comes out of the motor and rotate it one tooth in whichever direction gives you the adjustment you desire. Simple. Had to do the exact same thing when I mounted my Sato rear sets on the RC51. No biggie. It will take you 5 minutes max.

Oh I see, I apologize for not taking that into consideration earlier. I didn't realize that this could be done, I'll try that when I get home. That should solve my shifter issue! Thank you!!

As a note for that. On the shifter you need to remove the bolt totally to remove the lever from the shaft. There's a depression in the shaft that the bolt rests in. Even with the bolt spinning freely, the lever won't come off unless the bolt is out.
