Can you fit rental bar ends to the standard bars, thinking of getting mine anodised and would need to remove the plastic bar ends, do the just pop out?, will they get damaged being removed?

Use a pair of leather gloves and pull.

If that doesn't work - grab your nearest tool and pull with something medium soft to avoid scratches.

Yeah, gloves with a twist/pull should do.  I made the mistake of using pliers.  Thought if I wrapped the plugs in cloth and was gentle I wouldn't do any damage - wrong!  Chewed them up like crazy.
