I can't even see what your avatar is.  When I blow it up, it's too pixelated. (sp?)

I was at that store a couple of years ago.. that's a real shame, it was a very popular store there.

given your avowed penchant for chipboard hoarding... cheeky

I can understand how you would find the loss of one of its labyrinthine emporiums heartbreaking

fortunately Ikea's intended customers were not harmed by the fire as it occurred in the wee hours

so they will get a second bite at the wood and glue apple

ironically, my family manufactured furniture for over 100 years.

poppa (my grandpa) was a woodworker in the old country (what is now Russia, it was part of Romania back then)..  when he fled and came to the USA, he was a packman for a long time, then started a small furniture shop -- his  sons then started a furniture factory and ran it until the mid 1990s..

every piece of furniture in my home growing up was handmade!  i can spot a good dovetail from 100ft and can tell you how a sofa is made just by bouncing on it.

but i like the ikea style... :-)

Okay, it is time for me to speak against this Ikea bashing.  You see I am the spawn of Swedish immigrants.   I grew up to love all things Swedish.  Why, for several years I slept with a Husqvarna chainsaw, I became an avid Nordic skier, watched every Ingmar Bergman film and I have lusted over every blue-eyed blond Swedish Super Model.  Ikea is yet another of excellent things that have come from my second homeland, they provide affordable furnishings for the young and newly divorced.  Ratt, if you have a problem with my second homeland perhaps we should step outside.   laughingdp laughingdp

I am with akmnstr on Ikea not being the root of evil as potrayed by rat900...I have several nice furnishings in my home currently from them...fully furnished the munchkin's room and some great bookshelves...sometimes simplicity in terms of furniture and styling ain't so bad....and I somehow think you think the same thing rat, as you wouldn't have walked in there in the 1st place...

now...if they would just have some better make the beast with two backsing directions for assembly of their shit...but that is another pain in the ass....

I say Bollocks!! to your hyphenated heritage and inverted xenophobic conceits!!!...

yes I will grant your yah-yah land of heritage has turned out some stunning examples of human flesh

but do not let your mawkishness blind you to the reality....

100 years or more hence, I have every confidence that Sotheby's will not be auctioning off Ducatiz' collection  laughingdp

all true...before Ikea there was a place called Conrans....same stuff with the drawers that would give out at the bottom  and would fall into a pile of junk veneered lumber at the mere hint of being moved

of course I have slummed in the past, after divorce, raising destructive kids and animals and needing furnishings for them....especially good for the kids rooms when they were growing up...elsewise how would I know of such things ...heck I was there getting a drop-leaf table for my daughter's miniscule kitchen in her new house for a housewarming present...decent design...I'll pass on judging execution of that design

In a world of broken and wrong things....Ikea isn't even on page 20 of the list

Humor me...allow an old nicotine craving grouse his gripes Grin
