My '07 M695 has been running hot, which I've gathered from the folks here is due to running very lean.  I'm getting ready to install the recommended Fat Duc manipulator and am looking for any feedback on experiences and settings. Seems pretty straightforward, but one  question I have is if anyone knows what setting on the Fat Duc is equivalent to Factory settings? I'd like to find the best starting point, but am unsure what that would be. The bike is completely stock and I got 54MPG on my last tank of Super, which seems to validate the theory that it's adjusted very lean from the factory.

Thanks!

I've had a fatduc on my s4rs for two years.  I can't say you'll gain any heat reduction that's noticeable.  If heat is your problem I don't think the fatduc is the answer.
Hmmm. This was recommended in a previous thread where I was looking for options to help drop the oil temps I've been seeing. It was the least expensive option, so thought I'd give it a go. Hopefully it helps. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I have a fatduc on my 695.  I played with it a bit for the first few days and then left is set to minimum.  It completely cures the surging at low revs that my bike suffered from, as well as making it run a bit cooler.

Highly recommended.

Fatduc made my 695 run way better at low rpm, but did nothing to lower the running temperature.

Do you recall what setting you used? Minimum, like suzyj? Just curious.

Thanks all, for the replies.

did you end up removing the evap/emissions canister? if so, did you follow the instructions regarding plugging the hoses? if not, this could lead to your lean condition/hot running bike.

have you checked the spark plugs? thats another good indicator on whether your bike is running lean..

I haven't removed the canister yet. I gathered that it wouldn't likely have much effect on anything other than possibly causing hard starting on hot days when the bike's been sitting out (with the canister attached).

I'll probably try pulling the hoses and plugging things up to see what the effects are.  I'm still on the fence with this bike, so I'm making slow progress.

I'll check the plugs. Thanks for the suggestions and follow-up.

No, I didn't use minimum, although the bike ran better with the fatduc installed and on minimum than without the fatduc at all. If I recall, I think I had it at about 40-60% clockwise from minimum, if the entire travel of the dial is 100%.
My advice is to ride it on minimum, middle then maximum.    Do about 5 miles each time.   Then go to where it was best and try a couple more rides set to a bit more and a bit less.   Set it to the better one then ride it for 20 miles and try tweaking one more time.  You will find a spot on the dial your bike likes by then.

IIRC it will come set at a setting that most people find to be a good starting point. I fiddled a lot, but end of day very close to that area with stock exhaust.

Don't sweat the settings, it is very easy to use and install, the instructions are great and your'e not going to mess anything up.  It will not let you go to lean and adding fuel is not going to be an issue.  Not sure i would want (or you would need to go full rich) but shouldn't hurt anything.

Here is a thread you may find interesting with some specific settings.  On the chart i have with the instructions i have been mapping where i set it (with diff exhaust set-ups) and then keeping some notes on butt-dyno and gas mileage.

I am a HUGE fan of the Fat Duc - changed the way my S2R 1000 handles and let me manage baffles in or out on my exhaust for under $100.

@WetDuc -thanks for the reply. I like that strategy.

@WhiteStripe -thanks for the link. My search-fu apparently is not that strong because I didn't find that thread. Good info there, for sure.

I got everything connected on Sunday and got out for a ride today at the lowest setting (all the way counter-clockwise). Huge improvement in reducing the jerkiness on decel (which was driving me nuts). Much smoother at lower RPM's, too -no more bucking and clunking around 4000 RPM's.  Temps, I'm not sure yet. My approach isn't very scientific. Max today was 286 after getting caught in some stop-and-go and in-town riding on my return trip. I've hit 296 on a slightly warmer day, so maybe a slight improvement, though that may be wishful thinking.

Still more tweaking ahead...

Thanks again for the feedback and suggestions.  [thumbsup]
