Had to replace a broken throttle cable the last couple of days and when I finally buttoned it up this evening, hit the button and I got a starter turning over and long clicking sound and vibration in the solenoid. Funny cause it started fine the day before yesterday when I ran the tank dry. Replacing the cable, I removed the battery tray/airbox to get to the carbs. Anyway, it's too dark now to pull things apart to see what's up, but does this sound like a typical fried solenoid? Also I check at Ca-Cycleworks and he doesn't appear to be selling the Yamaha unit anymore. Anyone got a part number for that baby?

Thanks as always

Sorry, it's a '00 M750 dark. Are there just 2 connections for that model, as in one in from the pos battery terminal and one out to the starter?

That year has the super-janky power wiring.  :P

From the positive battery terminal, it goes to a giant 'Y' connector, one branch goes to the solenoid (then to the starter) the other branch goes into the wiring harness.

From the negative battery terminal, it loops under the battery box and is attached on the bottom of a battery box bolt with an additional nut.
Check to make sure that's clean and tight.

Then there's a 'jumper' ground wire that goes from the lower footpeg-to-frame bolt forward to the cases.
Make sure both ends of that ground wire are clean and tight.

Clean and tighten the main wires that connect directly to the battery, and the terminals on the battery.

Ok, I've taken the solenoid out with both leads, taken apart and cleaned all connections. Pos and Neg battery leads too. Battery's on tender overnight. I've checked both the bike and parts schematic and can't find a ground wire from the footpeg to frame, unless you're talking about this "mystery" that has not been connected to anything for a several years.

Yes, the free end of that one goes on the end of the footpeg bolt (in the pic) with a nut.
Ducati did it that way so you'll wonder WTF is going on the first time you try to take that bolt out.

Learn something everyday on these bikes.

Seriously, that's been hanging there I know for at least 4 years and it's never affected anything that I could discern.

Cleaned the last electrical connections, threw everything back together w/fully charged battery and she cranked right up...added bonus, it'll start and run with the kickstand down again;D

Thanks again Dog [beer]
