My first Ducati and road bike!

« on: August 20, 2011, 01:45:59 PM »

The best thing about the beast, is even standing still one still gets compliments. Usually young people reserve positive comments, but I have been getting them from them lately. I figured they would be after SBKs. Plus just riding around thumping without revving it to the moon, you can have fun and get stares. To be honest I didn't buy the beast to be seen, but it is starting to be that way and my head is growing Smiley  Dolph

They have been around for so long and changed so little that even fairly early models still look modern, unlike many sportbikes that look really dated after 3 to 4 years.

im a real modest guy, definetly not an attention seeker. I bought my monster, becuase I LIKED the way it looked and felt. Im 5'9 about 170 and it was the first time i ever sat on a bike.. that seemed to fit me perfectly.

I have owned .. in this order

r6
929
r1
all sold. Then my current baby, m1100.  I never knew or considerd the kind of attention this bike gets.
People of all races, ages.. male, female.. even children. Its odd.. but cool at the same time. I feel like im riding a super star around town.  NONE of my other bikes ever got the attention this bike gets. Even when i roll up at an all sportbike event. Even they, will reluctantly come up and look it over.. like a UFO just landed. Then theyre totally DUMBFOUNDED when they see 1100 on the gas tank. "What? that little thing is bigger than my bike?"  Then i have to explain what cc's mean, and they feel better. lol.

It is amazing, I stop at traffic lights and you can see cars inching forward to have a look. What has scared me a few times is cars speeding up and slow down to look at the bike, I have to be careful they don't run into me.

5.) I don't look out of place. I'm 5' 8" and 154 lbs. I look like a kid on most most bikes. And I can pick it up easily if I drop it.  Cool
4.) Some people don't know what it is.  I overheard a guy saying; "Thats that new Chinese bike."   Roll Eyes
3.) It's nekked! (Which all sexy things should be!)  bow down
2.) It's HOT!! (sexy)  drool
1.) It's Italian  Grin

For nearly the same price as as Jap sports bike, I was able to get a fine Italian machine with all the cool stuff. SSS, Brembo brakes, sweet wheels...  bacon
It was a no brainer!  chug

When I bought my 620, I had no idea about Ducati.  I just like the fit to me and it was a good starter and all I could afford.  The ninja was my choice but I was in for a shock when I called the insurance fee.
Anyhow, the rest is history.  As much as she is underpowered, she is great on twisty and ppl seem to still stare at her.
Lets be honest, they are a pregnant dog to maintain.

Grin  so true.   I got guys on r6, r1 asking me about top end etc.  LOL

the fast and furious (cars) drivers ask me if it is faster than their suburu wrx etc  LOL

I just crack up.  This is a 620, the top end is crap.  It ain't in the same league.

Falls on deaf ears anyhow.

1)  Everybody things it's crazy fast.

2)  Heads turn EVERYWHERE, Harley & sportbike riders both.

3)  Absolute HOOT to ride

4)  Keeps up with the sportbikes in the tight stuff to the point of "Damn dude, don't you EVER give up?"

Would like to add
5) Most guys think they are "chick magnets"

It must be the white wheels & SSS, of course me striking a pose next to it makes the biggest impact for maximum attention. I wait for the ladies to fall at my feet like a Roman god enjoying my morning brew and then I realize that their all just dudes.  laughingdp
