I remember the 1966 movie Grand Prix and bugging the hell out of my parents to take me to see it. My Mom finally gave in (my Dad didn't want to see it) because it had two of her favorite actors/actresses in it. James Garner and Eva Marie Saint. I really ought to watch it again for old times sake. I loved the old days of F1.

And you're right. Surtees was the only one who could do the trick in F1 and on the bike. Was hoping the Hailwood would be #2. Who knows, maybe Rossi will do it! Wink

You should get the DVD - I have it on VHS (whatz dat Grin)

Great car footage - with a minor storyline -

Kinda like "LeMans"

The 911 that McQueen drives in the opening sequence of LeMans just sold for $1.375 million (or there-a-bouts) WHew!!

I found two copies of Le Mans at a local video store last year and bought both. Kept one and gave the other to a life long friend whose a racing gear head for a b-day present. He make the beast with two backsing loved it. Neither of us had seen it in years. The really cool thing about the movie is my step son (at the time 13 year old) got on a huge Steve McQueen movie binge. Magnificent Seven, Bullitt, The Great Escape, Sand Pebbles (also a 1966 flick), etc. And when he found out I had another McQueen movie he went nuts! I can't tell you how many times we have watched Le Mans together. Bores the shit out of my wife and she leaves the room pronto to read a book or watch TV in the bedroom. Guy night!!! waytogo Love those Gulf Porsches!!!

What's really cool about Le Mans is that no one in Hollyweird would help McQueen make it so he just said make the beast with two backs it, I'll do it myself! And what a job he did!! Great racing footage. Yeah, a little slow moving but what McQueen movie isn't? If you haven't seen it check it out. waytogo drink

Haven't seen that in a while - thanks.......

Maybe we need a "best car chase thread" (or maybe there already is one)

I can remember seeing that film in the theater when it first came out....those forward looking shots out the front windows of the cars were 'disorienting'   Grin
