Worked on a 900ss, should work on monsters as well.

Here is how I removed my cush drive pucks.  This might get me excommunicated from the church of Ducati, but it works, it's quick, and there isn't a problem with it.  Yes, the inside of your cush drive housing will be marred a bit.  If this bothers you, please refrain from reading this how-to, and go ride to starbucks.

Step one:

Drill 8 holes in the rubber, all the way through.  You will feel it break through, and might even touch the backside of the wheel.  It's aluminum, it's not going to matter.

Step 2:

Take a sharp flat blade, and work it around the inner sleeve until it's nearly free (or completely free of the rubber.  Pull the sleeve out.  SOmetimes only a sharp flat blade was needed, a few times I needed to use a rotary tool to cut through the inner sleeve.  Twisting, pulling, ripping it out.

Step 3:

Flat blade screwdriver again.  Use this to scrape away a 1/4" or more area from the outer sleeve.  You are clearing a way to cut the outer sleeve here....

Once you scrape away enough rubber to see, you can use the rotary tool to cut the outer sleeve.  You will be able to see the outer sleeve getting thinner and finally break through it into the aluminum cush drive housing.  Just go slow, keep moving the tool back and forth, and you will be fine.  Don't be concerned about touching the aluminum....it's not going to hurt anything.

Once you have broken through the outer sleeve, you can tap a flat blade screwdriver in between the outer shell and the wheel.  The cush will probably drop further into the wheel, but don't worry....just get the screwdriver inbetween and pry the drive away.  It'll be easy to grab with a pair of pliers and remove.

The "damage" I caused to the wheel.

This method removed all 6 cush drives in ~30 mins.  Wheels are off to be powdercoated now.  I will post up the bearing part numbers I bought once they arrive and I verify they fit.  Also, motowheels has the delrin cush drives for $13.50 or something,  which is what I plan on using.

Hope this helps someone.

Great method and it works.

I normally beat mine out from the backside, and when the outer sleeve sticks in place (while the rest pops out) this is the go to procedure to remove that outer sleeve.

They do it the same way.

They just don't tell you they get all scratched up.
