The frames are pretty resilient and the other damage isn't drastic. Right side looks like a tip over or very low speed dump. Left side looks like a little more speed was involved, but not high speeds by a long shot.

But all the missing bits will cost you a few hundred to replace. Then there's the time... And does it run? It can't be ridden at the mo, but does it even run?

And - does it have 3 keys? From the factory it would have two black keys (daily use keys) and one red key. The red key is only used when the immobilizer system is tripped. IF you don't have the red key, you're rather buggered if the immobilizer trips. There are ways to eliminate the immobilizer, but none are cheap. And if the immobilizer goes off and you can't reset it, you need a new guage set, key and lock set and a new ECU. $$$

$3 for that?

I have seen excellent condition 620s go for $3000.  No damage.

I wouldn't pay more than 1500-2000 for that depending on the actual up close condition.

Tell him you want a repair estimate from a Ducati dealer and you'll pay $3000 minus the estimate.

KBB says that bike in "EXCELLENT" condition is $4000.  that's EXCELLENT condition, no significant damage at all.

Your seller also has it on Ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/140592639671

Honestly, I wouldn't touch it except for parts

I wouldn't even buy a bike with a NJ title either (unless I had a complete service history and knew the seller).  NJ is one of the few states that allows you to return a salvage title into a regular title with no notice to the buyer.

Excellent condition 620 dark that sold for $3000:

Have you restored or built a bike before?

Do you feel comfortable chasing wiring on a bike you have never owned?

Feel excited about paying about 4-500 to get the tank repaired and painted?

The bike is neither rare nor exceptional.  The 800 engine is nice and the frame/wheels/brakes look ok.

If you told me you had 3-4 ducatis in your garage or have owned them, I'd say go offer a lowball on it.  But for a first bike?

Let me know when you put it back on ebay.

This is my 4th bike, first Ducati. Never restored a bike but I'm very mechanically inclined. I had my own mechanich shop before. I know how to paint too, I have tools up to my eyeballs Cheesy and a great team of resources for when I need help...you guys Cheesy

I'm gonna offer $1k if not less once I see the extent of work it needs.

This is what I can do...

Oh oh oh get him to do that! You'll make money!

The tank alone is $1800

OK, then you're good to go.  I just hate hearing people looking for a fixer-upper for a first bike or even a first Ducati.

That being said, I think if you can get it for cheap, you'll get a good deal -- doing the work yourself.

Keep us posted.

Well I am back with news!!!  Cheesy Grin Dolph

I looked at the bike...oh boy, where do I start.

I was obvious that the bike had been dumped on both side, how did it happen I dunno, but upon further inspection more damages started to surface.
The bike was hit from the front and the damages were the following:

  • NO RED KEY
  • forks were bent, I sat on the bike and faced the fron tire straight but handle bars were veering left (could have been bent handle bars too, I'm no expert)
  • fork stoppers (where the forks meet the frame) were craked
  • frame 8" from the front had a dent on the bottom that lifted frame a bit and gave it a curve upwards on the right side
  • no brake lever
  • oil cooler tab was bent
  • cap that has tabs to hold oil cooler from the bottom, the tab was snapped off close to the cap
  • controlers on the clutch side spun around
  • dash was held on by two wires
  • had two plugs in the front tire (they weren't even cut off flush, I'd never ride with plugs on my tires anyway)
  • no battery
  • pegs, passanger peg brakets and exhaust were all from a donor bike
  • tank was scuffed/scraped on both sides
  • engine did run and pretty decent I might add
  • exposed wires from wire harness on the right front of bike and then they seemed to be cut and spliced very poorly
  • no headlight and headlight bracket was cracked also

So I made him an offer and gave him two choices, I told him $1k or I could get an estimate from the dealer and subtract the repairs off of his asking price. He then said "if you do that then I'll end up owing you money!" I said "I kinda like that option if you ask me!". So he then told me that he was going to keep it and fix it for himself. I said  waytogo

Yeah - he'd end up owing you on parts alone if you went by OEM price.

So yeah... walk away.  That's not worth the efforts.

Oh yeah he also told me that he replaced the tripletree cause it was cracked, so the impact was strong at the front end...so if you need me I'll be looking at the for sale posts  popcorn Tongue

He needs to man up and part it out or sell it for cheap.

All that's left is the engine and wheels, maybe the frame.  Frame isn't worth much, no market for it.

I'm going to email him about it.

I would've taken it if it didn't have that bad of a hit. I just want to find either an 8-900 stock so I can modify it to my liking, his would've been a good candidate but oh well...maybe you can repair it and make it look sick.

From the description of the dent in the frame, and cracked stops - I'd say the frame was done.

Wheels, engine, brakes and small parts...
