Measure Twice, Cut Thrice...at least...

Would be nice to have a category where people can post their builds/bikes/progress.  Most of the projects tend to get lost in the Accessories/Mods category...

Well I mean, yeah when someone lists a project and it is fairly easy to search them down, but there are two sections for "bike configurators" for models that aren't made any more, a "random pics", and "non moto" etc ... it seems it would be simple and add convenience for following builds...

Many other great motorcycle message boards host a projects section... I just think it is something that should be taken into consideration.

I'm for it. Partially solely to disagree with DP Tongue, but mostly because I think it would be nice to have all those threads easily accessible for reference. It's easy to follow when they're happening but impossible to find once they're off the radar unless you remember who was doing them or a keyword.

For new folks and casual members looking for ideas, they'd never find them.

I say do it.

I have two or three.. or four?  bikes I am working up slowly and it would be cool to have a "home" for each one.. pic updates, etc.

Plus to see other folks work all in one place.

I don't know where on the board it should go, but it is a good idea...

The UK Bandit board has a build forum and it rocks.  Some threads there are customization threads (like mine), but others include engine rebuild/mod, total strip downs with frame modifications, Harris- and Spondon-framed bikes with pictures and on and on -- now my favorite forum.

I am against it. It would just serve as a painful reminder that i am not working on my projects. And I have a wife for that.

What would be the cut-off from accessories / mods and project?

I do like the idea.

If you remove most of the parts from the bike in a single go, that's a project

if you put on new exhaust, new wheels and new mirrors, that's mods.

for it to be a project, you have to post an initial photo of a mostly-disassembled bike

I think this would be a very popular category. Everyone loves projects when they show up here and there. Then they fade out and get lost among the "hey, look at my new clutch cover" topics. (not to diss those, I also posted there...)

How about a stickied builds thread at the top of the Acc/Mods section which just includes links to the various builds with a quick description of the build.

Mods can decide what qualifies as a "build", and add the link to the thread.

No response in the thread allowed...it'd just be a collection of links.

this is a good idea.

i think keeping together a thread for a single bike helps see changes and direction and total work.

I have the main rebuild thread, but i know I have a few theads that deal with technical, mods, exhausts, etc for this single build.

It would be similar to DucCutters.

Well you have the "Projects" category, and each thread is about 1 bike.  Updates are posted to that thread for any mods done to that bike whether they be frame-up build, mild modding, etc.

"2-Skinny's 916/1098 Hybrid-Project"

or

"DoWorkSon's 748 -> 696 Swap Build"

or

"FeedtehDucs 695 Cafe Racer"

etc...

Where they would post updates to their builds- and the threads are kept in that one section to find easier.  AND  people don't have to make multiple threads for each modification.

This is different, but I am a member of an aquarium forum and everyone keeps tank "journals" for people to follow their progress, images etc.

Sure, anyone can search but keeping it in one spot is easier and browsing through for inspiration is fun.

I'm for it.  If we had one I would have posted my never ending Desmo pregnant dog project.
