Ive had my Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto for a while now and its well... seen better days even though ive only had it for a few months.

I am trying to sharpen it to get back that corner between the two blades, but it find it pretty difficult to since the blade kind of curves up right at that point.

any pointers in sharpening and getting a crisp corner on a tanto?

It seems like there were some references to sharpening on the knife threads.  Cold Steel doesn't sharpen for you?  ZT does if you send your knife to trhem.

yes but cold steel isnt with me 24/7.

And their turn around is about 4 weeks since they do it in batches (well 4 weeks if u mail it at the beginning)

I was thinking about picking up a second knife and sending this one in to get the whole blade redone because though i can make it very sharp, that 2nd tanto point is very hard for me to keep and maintain.

Pick up a Rajah III.  Fairly inexpensive.  Send in the other.

I'm getting a Strider with a Tanto.  I like the look but haven't had a folder with one yet.  You like 'em though?

You must sharpen the point and main separately.  I would say consistant 20-22 degrees on the edge. You may inquire as to the factory edge angle. The key is consistent angle while sharpening. No so easy free hand.

I got the blade sharp, but that point well, its works, but no where near factory laser edge will probably end up sending it in.

I love the folding tanto by cold steel. the mechanism they use to lock the knife is everybit as advertised. ive beaten the hell out of it in the past few months and it keeps on ticking. Though some parts show minor errosion, a simple clean with silicone oil makes it work perfect again. I like how adjustable the knife is too.

to be honest, a full 4 inch blade is way to freaking big as an everyday carry, but i got used to it pretty quickly and prefer it over the smaller knife just because the big one can cut a lot of things in one good cut instead of having to make multiple cuts like my other 3" folder.

Believe you me! the tri-ad lock is freaking AWESOME. Stay away from the ones that have a auto deploy when you pull it out. I tend to move my knife around alot ( if i have the clip showing, i can get thrown in jail because the knife is illegal to own) so i will always unclip it and put it in my pocket. if i had the quick deploy catcher, then id be deploying the knie every time i did that.

Check out the Spiderco Sharpmaker. You can nab one for about $50 from Amazon.

I use it to sharpen my Benchmade...it also comes with a pretty decent how-to DVD.
