Hi,

I want to change the front sprocket of my M1100 Evo to 14T.
I was searching the web and DP 2011 accessories catalogue and couldn't find the M1100 EVO listed on any of them.
Perhaps the catalogue was published before the M1100 EVO was launched so maybe it could be the same sprocket as the M796/1100/1100S although it is not in the list.

Can anyone advise,

David

Im taking my Evo in this week to have the 14t installed. I called my dealer and they said they had one in stock so I think they may be the same. As far as the catalogue, nothing is listed for the evo in the 11 catalogue, but you can go to ducatiusa.com and find accessories that way.

that's the only one I found and it says not suitable for ABS models:

code 96824701B
Front sprocket 7mm (525) - T14
Front sprocket 7mm (525).

Notes: These accessories are not suitable for ABS equipped models.

Geez. I was hoping to do a 14t on my ABS bike. That sucks!
Wonder what makes it not compatible.

thought

it's compatible with abs, it's an error that ducati never fixed up in their literature.

google about duc's, abs, and the 14t.  you'll see a lot of threads out there about it, but in the end someone heard from ducati saying that they work just fine.

i cant say anything about TC and the 14t though, but i'm pretty sure that should work out find too.

The ABS is calibrated for the stock gearing and the ABS has been EC Type Approved with that gearing, hence the disclaimers. 14T works fine with ABS (and TC on the evo). Terminal lockup might differ less than 1 MPH. Hardly anything to get your knickers in a twist over it. Checked all this out myself prior to fitting a 14T to my 796. Your dealer probably knows this too.

"Thank you for contacting Ducati North America.

The ABS system uses both speed and RPM in its computations, two things directly affected by changes made to the gearing ratio. The ECU that governs the ABS system is programmed to work with the stock gearing on the bike only.

We hope this provides you with the information you were after.

"Dear Tom,

Thanks again for contacting Ducati North America.

After reviewing the Ducati ABS operating principles, and conferring with colleagues, it has been determined that the independent operation of the ABS will tolerate a -1 tooth countershaft sprocket change or a +1 rear sprocket change.

I am taking my bike to my local dealer on sunday morning to install the 14T cs sprocket..will keep you posted..

I contacted 4 different Ducati Service techs at 4 different dealerships asking if I could switch from the stock 15/39 to a 14/41.  All said the exact same thing, sprocket change will not affect ABS/TC on the monster.  The monster gets its speed reading from the Tone rings on the wheels, gearing change has no affect on ABS/TC and speedometer.

The monsters are geared way way too high.  even with my current 14/39 setup, the M796 can only cruise at 77 mph in 5th gear, any slower and I have to shift to 4th or the bike starts to shudder.  6th gear is only good at 95mph and above, I can shift to 6th at 85mph, but the bike shakes and no power to accelerate.

I had the dealer put a 14 tooth on my Evo before I even picked it up.  I've had no issues with the brakes.

Agreed about the noise and emissions reg gearing on the 796, but bad shuddering under 4,000 - 4,500 RPM under throttle sounds wrong. They do that when new because they are very tight. How many miles do you have on it now?

BTW, I also had the 14T fitted from new but wouldn't want to go any shorter. I'd guess the mileage would be horrible. Getting ~ 45 MPG right now at 750 miles on the clock.

Incidentally, mine takes throttle from 3,500 now without a lot of complaint. When new it was almost as bad as a Hawg.  ;)
