So, I was looking over my bike earlier today and happened across a bolt that's in the cross-member for the swing arm, and it was sticking up from the swingarm as if it was loose.

Peculiar, but have no fear, my 4mm allen wrench is here - I went to snug it up and it just spun in place.  It looks like it's seated into some sort of washer/nut inside the cross-member, but the washer/nut just spins in place along with the bolt.

Moreover - it looks like this bolt serves no purpose whatsoever.  There's nothing attached to it.

I guess my question is: should I be worried about this bolt having backed out, and does anyone know off-hand what its purpose is?

There's only 2,100 miles on it, and I'm the second owner....I can't imagine there's been /that/ much wear and tear to have it back out of its seat.  Hmm.

Thanks for the help! [thumbsup]

that's for your rear fender. since you don't have one, you don't need the bolt.

That bolt originally held the rear fender on.
It's got a shoulder on it, so that's as far as it will tighten down, so it wouldn't crush the plastic fender.

It's threaded into a rivnut, which has come loose.

You're not the first victim.

_OH_!

Phew - I wasn't too worried about it since it didn't look like it was holding anything together, but for the life of me I couldn't think as to why they were there and wanted to make sure.

It was the previous owner that removed the fender, hence why I had no idea what those were for, lol.

Thanks for the help - it's kind of a drag as it's now an eyesore since I've noticed it, but I'll deal with it.
