Hey all

Just breaking my monster ('07 S2R 1k).  In the last six months or so all the gas sold locally has been getting ethanol.

Over on the west side of the state (Oregon) that has been the norm, but not so here.  I think we are getting about 5-10% of the stuff.

Any concerns?  Will the bike run hotter?  Most likely a little less power(?)  I know the plane guys hate the stuff but most newer cars it's not an issue.

Thanks

I haven't noticed any difference in my bike since the move from Spokane, but then again, I haven't put alot of miles on my bike yet... *shrugs*

Bike shouldn't be hurt by the stuff, but gas milage will be crap.

Your bike ('07 S2R1k) runs closed loop with the O2 sensor, so, in comparison, it will run better than an earlier open-loop would.

Mileage will be less than if it were running straight gasoline.
Maybe a little less power.

Sorry, should have told you.  Bike has the full Termi system, including airbox ECU and midpipe.  So, no O2 sensor.  DP ECU doesn't read an O2 sensor.

But so far the bike has been running good.  Around 40 mpg during the first 400 miles.

hey marvellous,

spo-vegas only runs ehtanol during the winter

so, you probably wouldn't notice any difference

No tail chop yet...  Still trying to decide how much I want gone.  Gonna be riding in the rain, so don't want to get soaked.

My go DP short tail, but????

the ethanol will lean out the fuel and make the bike leaner. At 10% you will lose a little power and fuel economy, the bike will be fine. you would be hard pressed to feel the loss of power.
Anyone that races with ethanol goes to much fatter jetting from stock but they are using much higher consentrations.

marvellous

I bought the bike in August prior to the Winter Ethanol, but like I said, I probably wouldn't know any difference with so few miles (2000 since August)...  :)

correct me if I'm wrong but... wasn't there some concern a while back with the ethanol affecting the plastic fuel tanks?

I'm sure there was, but unfounded.  On (way) older vehicles this is a concern.
