Can we have a sticky in the cam section that list the speed camera.  I  am interested in all BUT I have a particular interest in the one that are in the cruisers that sit on the side of the road and move from street to street as they feel fit. This is a major revenue generator in DC.

I support this idea.  [thumbsup]

I'll start with an easy one.  There are cameras on 395 south of Massachussetts.  It's the open area between the two tunnels as you head northbound towards New York Ave.  Actually, I am pretty sure they have cameras in both directions.

Now how does this become a sticky??

I've been nailed twice by those fracking things. Once in Montgomery Village and once in Poolesville.

Thanks, this is very useful.

Dave/FGR, where do they have a camera in Poolesville?  I ride out that way somewhat frequently.

TIA...

Here's the comparable site for Montgomery County.  Unfortunately, you have to check each of the districts (I haven't seen a single map that covers the entire county):

http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/poltmpl.asp?url=/content/POL/districts/FSB/sod/speed/locations.asp

In Europe (UK & France last time I checked), there are up-to-date maps of camera locations that you can upload to your Zumo GPS, and automatically get an on-screen or audible reminder when you are approaching an enforcement zone.  It would be great if something similar became available here in the U.S., but so far I haven't found it.

My citiation reads "19400 Blk Fisher Ave (Tom Fox) s/b"

I was going home after working all day as a moto ref for the Poolesville Road Race. They got me for 44 in 30. 44 on my ST4s feels like walking, so I'm not surprised i got nailed. I just wish I had seen the warning sign before hand.

I'm waiiting patiently now for the ticket I probabaly got three weeks ago on River Road when I was working the Murad Road race, also in Poolesville.

Thanks for the replies to both Daves.

I've ridden on River Road a couple of times per month for the past few years and have only seen police on a handful of occasions.  I guess I better start being a little more careful out there.

I grew up in Poolesville, and the cops out there are numerous.  Most cops that live in town take their cars home so you can't go but a block or two and see one.  As for speed traps, coming right into town from Quince Orchard way after you make the turn into "town" (that's where it turns into Fisher Ave.) where the housing developments start - big trap.  Stationary and mobile.  The first turn to the left at the Catholic Church is Tom Fox Rd. Another one?  Right at Whites Ferry (rt. 109) and Partnership.  They'll get ya every time.  Also, going out of town to the north at Beallsville (rt. 109) and Jerusalem.  In town, beware at the old Highs store (now a frame shop) and at the 4 way intersection at the elementary school.

If you get out on River Rd. extended (out in the fields and woods) you have to watch for 'em at River and Hughes, River and Willard, and anywhere you can access McKee-Beschers going down to the river.  Cops tend to "hide" out there to take a break themselves and just wander onto a speeding Duc.  If you get out to Mt. Nebo, don't worry.  No one goes out there unless they are drunk or lost.  ;D

I could go on and on.  :)

Damn, I guess I've been very lucky.  Do they patrol much on the weekends?

I live in Arlington, so I generally get on River Road from the Beltway and take it all the way to West Willard and take that into Poolesville and grab a bite at Basset's.  I occasionally reach extra-legal speeds in the stretch from Bretton Woods to Willard.  Like I said, I literally take this ride on average about 2x per month and have been doing so for almost 5 years.  The few times I have seen Police, I have been lucky enough to be caught behind a slow moving cage.  It looks like I will need to adjust my riding from now on. :(

I wouldn't get all worked up about being too legal, but when there's any type of event in Poolesville or on the canal/river, they tend to be out.  Also, at the little Pooles Store at Seneca, cops like their morning coffee there.  My parents have stopped in there in the AM for over 20+ years.  :)

West Willard is ultra fun - if you have a hypermotard, you'll catch lots of air on some of those bumps.  Can do the same on Hughes Rd. I know my car did as a teen.  (oops, did I say that??; hope mom is not reading)  Bassetts is yummy, too.  It used to be called Titus' when I was a tiny one (sort of shows my age a little).

If you have to "disappear" anywhere in Mont. co., it's the place to do it.  Anywhere else in Monkey Co. nowadays is way too populated to twist the throttle.

And of course there's the ever-present speed trap during race weekends on the road to Summit Point right after the road in Charles Town curves to the right, where you go 'left' (straight really) at the stop sign. It's right before the railroad tracks. I believe they set up more to catch people coming back from the races than going the other way, but I've seen people pulled over in both directions.
I heard they used to park in the church lot but the pastor didn't like that, so he put up a chain.  [laugh]

If you live in the DC area in general and want to take a short ride without too much traffic, that is about the only area I have found.  I wonder how long that will last?  Maybe the Buddhist Temple will by up all of the land and keep it undeveloped  ;)[roll]
