Sportage.

After we loved the Sorento, I test drove the Sportage (a year later).. I liked it a LOT, but I am not ready to give up my Golf TDI.  IT's a shame too, cause Kia makes a great diesel engine they ship in ROW

How did you like it?

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

Didn't get a chance to go there tonight. There are a few '11s left though so they are wanting to make a deal.

Do they have any awd models?

It is a much tighter drive than you expect.  It is fwd biased but you can lock the diff.  I think the sportage has the hill brake assist too which I first thought would be annoying as I drive stick and am used to doing it differently but its proven itself.

The i4 motor would be much better with LP Turbo bit its good as is for a commuter and family car.  Tell me what you think of the cargo space

Cargo seems to be small. Nothing like the CRV or RAV4. I don't like the fact that back seats to recline either. going on long road trips with it and that would be nice. Anyway, cargo room might be enough to take stroller and luggage but not much else. Roof rack will be in order along with extra storage.

They don't recline at all or not far enough?  The Sorento seats do recline to about 45deg.  I'm curious how much space those had because I estimated about 3-4 suitcases plus random stuff to fit.  We usually travel with 2 full sized pullmans.

Back seats don't recline at all. They're fixed just like the Rogue.  Testing them this weekend when my dad comes up to PHX. Getting his opinion on used vehicles in case I go with the RAV.

The rear (mid) seats on the Sorento recline.  It's nearly identical, but it's longer than the Sportage.  You might like it with or without the 3rd row.  The Sorento also has a V6 version, but we're very happy with the I4

Yeah, they had an I4 with a third row. Said those are harder to come by. Like thought of third row just in case. That "third row" bench in the back of the Outlander was a joke! The seat was a frame with a cloth on top. Definately DOD emergencies only. That vehicle had the CVT transmission slobh with the paddle shifters. Not a fan.

Sorento with paddles?  Is that the SX model?

The 3rd row on the Sorento isn't bad.  I tried it for the test drive.  Made the salesman drive me around while I rode there.  It is great for kids or shorter folk.  Maybe up to 5'5 Max...  it has real seat cushions too.

Sorry. I must have typed that last message from my phone. Damn touch screen errors. The paddle shift was in the outlander.

aha.. i know they are rolling out some vehicles with paddle shift.. the new Optima hybrid has them..

i'm still surprised about the sportage rear seats -- i assumed the sportage was just a shortened chassis from the sorento, but maybe it's more different than i thought.

you might like the utility of the Kia Rondo, but it's a face only a mother could love.  people who own them love them, but they look like a pigs ass to me.

Haven't looked but sounds similar to an Aztec.

yes and no.  the rondo looks utilitarian ugly whereas the aztec was just badly designed.

if you have followed the korean makers over the years, you can see why they made it.  it is like a camel -- purely functional, excellent mechanics, but little regard for the aesthetics, at least on the outside.  i had one as a rental and it drove fine, but stepping back from it ..well.. not the prettiest girl at the orgy.
