Compression test

1969 M696  -  I am going to take a compression test.  With this ignition system is it crucial that I ground out the spark plugs while turning the engine over?  I know that some ignition systems can be damaged if the plugs are not grounded.

You need to either ground the plugs or disable the ignition.  The fuel pump should be disabled too. 

Why are you doing a compression test?

Dunno about the 696 but my Monster has separate fuses for the ignition and fuel systems. Pull both, and trusting that you know the throttle should be fully open for testing.

1969 M696 sh read 2009 M696 - sorry for triple typo guys.  This head cold is making me ditzy. 
I always hold the throttle wide open.
I make it a general practice to take compression tests on most of my toys just to have a base line.
Thanks all for the input.
FWIW - I got 170 psi on the vertical and 160 psi on the horizontal.
Sound about right with 4,000 miles?
