Is anyone using any type of waterproof backpack?

If so, what are you using?

This is one option, from Givi...

I have this from Kappa. The shoulder strap stained my white leather jacket during a wet ride, which may or may not have been one accidental faulty pack.....

i think the top dog in current waterproof backpacks is the kriega r30.

i have it and i love it.  it's a roll top dry bag with the kriega harness basically and it's totally waterproof.  do a search on this forum for he-man's review on it and he basically states all the pros/cons of it.  i agreed with everything he posts in that review too.

Kappa, I have this one too.. No stain issue with shoulder strap. I like it. For few days ride i strap the back pack directly on the bike behind me, over saddle bags.

I think I'm leaning more towards the Kappa as it's made of PVC and completely waterproof. And all of my jackets are black so I won't have to worry about staining.

The R30 is nice but if all that keeps your stuff from getting wet is a dry bag inside the pack I could do that with a trash bag and my current pack for a lot less than $220.

He Man, based on your review and video the external pockets on the R30 started to collect water after a while in the rain?

the external pockets are water resistant, not waterproof so they will eventually collect water.

what you're really getting with a kriega is their harness system... it's pretty awesome and really makes the weight on your back go away when you're riding.  that and some ridiculously high quality construction.

but yeah, if you want the cheapest route, a drybag in any backpack is the easiest and simplest way.

I just bought an R25, not waterproof like the R30 but wanted to second the harness system.  Makes it easier getting the pack on and off with a riding jacket on and very comfortable.

I'm using a Kriega R30. I've used it to carry groceries, my textbooks, tools and etc. I've been caught in a few downpours and the innards were completely dry.
Don't argue with idiots. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

the r25 and r30 are both water resistant. the drybag is what makes it water proof, in that type of case you could get a drybag from aerostitch and just put your stuff inside it and call it the same thing.

of course like others have said , the magic in kriega is their harness system and high quality. ive wnet down on my kriega r25 and i contineud to use it for 2 years until i went to the r30. i still use the 25. i just wish they had an R30 with a zip AND a rucksack top so its easier to get into and out of.

I know it's not designed for riding but my work bag is an eagle industries R.A.I.D 2 stays remarkably dry I have been caught in some pretty horrific downpours and my stuff was bone dry even though the outside of the bag was soaked. It's a military bag though so it may not suit your tastes. I would post a pick but it's sitting in my office so if anyone is interested I can post them later. Another note on this bag is I have been using it pretty much daily since 2005 it's been used in the field and 21 months in Iraq and it still looks and works like brand new.

A bag that is absolutely not waterproof at all is my Icon squad 2 bag. I found a rain fly for a north face bag that fits well at gander mtn, but now that I am prepared I havent gotten caught in the rain so more to follow if that works. Other than the lack of water resistance I really like the bag but it's the only Moto specific bag I have bought so my experience is limited on that part. Keeping stuff dry on the other hand I could ramble on and on about.
