Here is another bike that I'd use for inspiration.  Mainly I dig the seat tail section, modified tank, color selection, and the black rimmed spoke wheels

Since you mentioned it is a budget project.  The rims on that bike are from a Sport Classic 1000. I recently saw a set for $500 with rotors and mildly used tires. If your budget grows then go for the tubeless Alpina spoked rims.  If you don't want to go with spoked rims then find some black 999 rims.  The 3 spoke rims on there right now are too common.

I would also try the fork gaitors Duck-Stew used on one of his bikes.

Also, borrow his hidden oil cooler idea.  Or at the very least paint it gloss black like the Hypermotards.

Then paint or powdercoat black the following:  Swingarm, rear hoop, stock rearsets and possibly the triples.
Ceramic coat the entire exhaust black or silver.  The current one looks too rough.  Lose the rear hugger and possibly the headlight fairing.

Another easy & inexpensive mod is to change the color of the front end with vinyl wrap like this.

The ie oil cooler, throttle body spool, non adjustable forks, swing arm, coil pos-n, fuel cap, etc. But I had to look twice as its the last iteration of the 888 based chassis.

I've always thought it a bit of a shame to have one of the classic styled Monsters and have a black frame.  The trellis frame is so beautiful, and such a big mark of the brand, that I always prefer it to stand out more.  Paint it red, or even a light gray.  Or something else, just not black.  Just my two bits.

Well guys,

I've gotta say thanks for the input, pictures, and ideas so far.

It's about time for powdercoat now though, and after tossing around several ideas (ranging from blacked out, fiber optic lighting along the frame (tron-esque), Red (all sorts of reds), retro-bronze/copper, Chameleon, etc...), We've pretty much narrowed it down to 3 general ideas:

1. Yellow Frame, Yellow Tank, Blacked out motor, triples, swingarm, wheels, etc...

2. Yellow Frame and Tank, Blacked out motor, triples, Bright Blue wheels.

3. Monster S4R (04) inspired Dark Blue frame, with Dark Blue tank and White racing stripe, White Wheels, blacked out motor, swingarm, triples, etc...

What do you guys think?

Out of all of those choice, I think the blue would be best... but what about a baby blue with a white frame?  Something a bit different than the normal colors.

I'm in for the dark blue color scheme. I've always loved the blue s4r.

I'm leaning this way as well...

I'd love to have a yellow Duc, but this one is more of complete picture in my head - solving many problems quickly and easily...
