I am trying to take the exhaust pipes of my 2000 m750 so I cab take the engine out to paint but can't get this nut off, i tried a bit yesterday realising it wasn't going to happen sprayed it with penetrating fluid it still isn't coming off and don't think it will should I cut the top of the nut Off or the flange ? i know the one that i have already removed wasnt supposed to take the threaded bar with it. Here is a pix.

Good thing you can replace the studs and the head will be as good as new.  No mater what solution you try, I'd buy new studs right away and plan on installing them in.  To get them out I soak the area with Kroil, lock two nuts against each other, and unscrew.

Somebody will chime in with a better answer, but looking at your pic, I'd probably put on some goggles, shine a worklight at it, and go to town with my Dremel cutoff wheel.  A diagonal cut across combined with some removal pressure from the socket may crack the nut allowing you to unscrew it.  A steady hand or a support will allow you to cut a deep enough slash across without damaging the threads.     I would not cut the flange.  On my 800S, I have no idea how to replace it; I have that crossflow assembly back there all welded up.

Good luck.

When in doubt - replace. That nut is so stuck to the stud that you managed to turn it out of the head. Getting a replacement stud and nut(s) won't cost must. I'll defer to more hard core techs on the proper way to place the new stud. But I can tell you from experience that the time it'll take you to free up that crusty mess will cost you more than the cash cost of replacement parts, if you figure out your own labor cost.

Jebus - that bike been sitting in a salt marsh? If that thing on top is what's left of a half ring, that is in sorry shape.
