So I just came to realize today that I am long overdue for a new filter, I was thinking and I realized, this is a great oppertunity to get away from stock, so my question is, What kind of filter should I get, and also, Is it something I could pick up at a local auto part store?

Unless you are tuning the bike otherwise, just pick up a stock filter.

No, you cannot get them anywhere else, you can find them online.  They are all the same on teh 2v models.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the air—these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

I went up to auto part store and I had them order a K&M one for me.

Don't change to something like a K&N unless you want to mess with your carbs as well. The oiled cotton gauze allow more air - which you then need more fuel. Stick to the OEM style paper media filters.

Not all 2v filters are the same. Older bikes they are roughly square, newer rectangular. Just look up your year and get the filter for it.

And no, your local auto parts shop won't stock one. A moto store might, but you'll probably be ordering.

how about a fuel-injected version?  Won't that automatically adjust to the new air flow?

I'm not so sure he will have issues with the k&N. As long as he does'nt mess with the stock air box. From a previous post, I believe he is wanting to jet the carbs. I don't see any reason to buy paper filter only to have to buy a k&n when he jets it.
