He Man

so im riding on the BQE right before the bridge and i pull my clutch in to change gears and i hear this sound of death coming from my clutch and immediately pull off the road.

I inspect and limped my bike off the highway. Now im stuck waiting for someone to pick me up. Theres sparks coming out of my clutch and theres very little pressure in my lever.

Pretty sure a rock got in there and started messing with things.

Goat_Herder

that sucks, He Man.  Are you running a completely open clutch or with a open clutch cover?

my brother came by with an allen key and i took the over off. there was metal everywhere. :(

i pushed the bike home which sucked cause i had winter gear on and my laptop, text books etc.

took her home completely tore her down and cleaned everything. back on the road now, but still sucked!

Metal everywhere, sparks flying - your solution was to clean it and now it's fine again  ???

Where did you manage to pull off on the BQE?! I was on it today and surprised at how much more trash than usual was around the Kosciuszko Bridge (I figured the high winds had something to do with it).

EDIT: Congrats on the 9999th post!  [thumbsup]

Yeah, I think if I was still in NYC, I'd not ride with open belts or clutch..  Too much shit on the roads there.

"Yelling out of cars, turning your speakers out the window to blast your music onto the street, setting off M-80 firecrackers, firing automatic weapons into the airâ€"these are all well and good. But none of them create a merry atmosphere of insouciance and bonhomie quite like a revving motorcycle.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

im not entirely sure what happened.

all of my spring caps got shaved down, and none of the springs were loose.

all i know is that i had to push that pregnant dog home because i had no pressure in my clutch. the fluid was completely gone. and yes it was full when i left my house!

rebuilt the whole thing, and the bushings inside my slave were all cut. must buy rebuild kit for that thing.

Speeddog

Sounds like the hub nut got way loose.

That lets the pressure plate get far enough out to hit the cover.

That is exactly what happened to a friend's bike, except he caught it a little earlier, nio damage.

it wasnt loose when i took the clutch plate off, though it could of just been jammed up as it backed out. I had no problem getting it off  so that really might of been it.

That's what happened to my '69 Norton Commando.  Ended up putting in a used transmission out of a Matchless (same tranny) because all of the end threads were stripped as the basket worked it's way off the input shaft.  :P
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.
