Oil leak rear cylinder

Hi guyz....I m having a problem...one or the screws of the rear cylinder head is leaking oil..specifically the rear left screw (seated on the bike)...Does anyone know the nm i need to put on the wrench and the type of nut i need? torx or sth?

Are you talking about a valve cover?  A photo with the suspect screw and leakage would be helpful.

the heads are secured to the case with 14mm nuts on a stud, not a torx or hex.

no no it's not the valve cap..for sure..the valve cap is dry..the leak seams to be of the rear left nut or the washer which secures the cylinder head..sry for my english..

it looks the arrows are pointing at the camshaft bearing cover but i can't tell

what makes you say that? the fins could be excreting oil. 


that is a problem spot on my bike (S2R1000) just cleaned the whole area, and cleaned the cover before reinstalling it. if it ideosnt work, im going to pick up a o ring for it and give that a try.

On newer bikes Ducati use a twelve point nut for that fastener, don't they?  I think you'll find it's a 14mm, 12point (rather than the traditional 6 point).  Older ones are 15mm.

You'll need to buy/make/acquire a head nut tool to tighten it with a torque wrench, which is recommended occasionally, anyway.  The tool is a short bar (or cut wrench with a socket, or whatever you want to make) with a 12 point socket cut-out on one end and a squre cut-out for your ratchet on the other.  Like this:  http://www.motoreva.com/item.cfm?itemid=103&categoryid=171  If you make one from a box-end wrench, you'll probably have to grind it down a bit as they're generally too think in their stock configuration.  Most of the aftermarket bits are thin plates with laser cut or water jet cut features.

Often something else in the neighborhood is leaking and the oil just accumulates around this nut, though.  Look at the cam caps and valve covers, first.  They're easy to "fix" and more likely to leak.

I just got a 696 and noticed leaks around the same area you pointed AND on the horizontal cylinder as well (same area), my best bet is that it is the valve cover o-ring and read some posts people having same problem. I have ordered the 886.4.060.2A o ring for mine to replace the stock 886.4.060.1A. Seems to be a general problem and Ducati came up with a new ring to replace the original one.

that's not a new design, that's a different supplier ID, likely the parts are identical

  i just sliced mine in half. i took it apart last night to clean it, went for a ride today, its still leaking when i took it off i tried to lube the ring up, then as i installed it, i sliced it up. called ducati soho for the part, they are going to get back to me!
