Where's that Ketchup? Tailight is waiting!

« on: June 22, 2008, 05:09:12 AM »

What I did to my alternator cover this week.  All hand painted.

I was going to buy a billet one, but thought i'd make something myself.  Took about 3 days with paint drying time and a shot of clear on top.  Used industrial rustoleum spraypaint - black, and then the little testors model paint for the rest.

I'd send a pic of it on the bike, but the dog chewed the gasket that goes behind it so i've got to get one before I re-install it.  Bummer.  Cry

I've never had a bike that i'm constantly doing something to.  It's addicting like getting tattoos.  I've got friends that like the "stock" bike, but I feel the monster is just a blank canvas when you buy it - waiting to be made into "your own"!!  Grin

Pretty cool idea.  Looks really good.  Post some picks on your bike when you get the new gasket.  Are you gonna order a new gasket or just follow the dog around tomorrow with a plastic bag?  On second thought, don't answer that!

Definitely not chasing the dog...what comes out of her #$%*&$#@ is not anything you want to look at. Smiley  I have a post in on the parts wanted section.  If I can't find one this way, i'll call the stealership on Tuesday.  They are not open on Monday.  Cry

I am thinking of getting another one and doing something different.  That little round spot is like a blank canvas.

I wasn't even thinking, but I have the stock green seal off of my bike.  The billet I bought from Corsair had it's on.  My bike only had about 7000 miles on it so it should be in good shape.  If you want to wait on snail mail, let me know and I will send it to you.  I don't have a use for it anymore.  Just let me know.

If anyone wants theirs painted, you can PM me or send me an email.  You'd have to send me yours, i'd paint and return asap.  It does take a few days to paint, i'd estimate you'd be out your part about a week, minus shipping time. I'd charge, say $15, and that would include return shipping via USPS in a padded envelope.

I'd do a "swap" of the cover, but I found out that there are different gasket shapes.  Some are perfectly round, some have a little tab on the gasket that fits in a slot.  This way you get your original part back and you would use your original gasket.  **You would need to tell me which way your cover faces - "wings" on the side pointing down or pointing up.  Does make a difference when you paint it.  Wink
