Anyone here that has pulled their 1100s forks apart?

One of my fork seals are leaking so I ordered up a seal kit. Have had no luck in finding a schemtic for these particular forks. Anyone done it as yet? Anything I should be particularily aware of? I have done other forks before...

wouldn't the 1100s have ohlins forks? not sure how much different it would be to the above example

since your just replacing the seal, then theres not much difference from other forks.  Im not sure if those ohlins have seperate cartridges for each fork (comp and rebound in each leg), but once you get the tool to remove the top cap, its all relatively the same.

Thanks HeMan, I have those tools. Just wondering if anyone has done the Ohlins, if not I will take some pics and let people know what I found if wanted ;-)

I don't know if these are the same as yours, but if they aren't there should be a manual for yours....

Clean the entire working area of the slider.

You'll need a pin spanner to get the top cap off.

Then, a *deep* 14mm (I think) open end wrench to get the locknut and a 17mm on the preload hex to get the cap off.

Once the cap is off, use caution, as the whole lower assembly can slide out!

Pull the spring down, and get the locknut off, take the spring perch off, then take the spring out.

Don't spill any oil!

Compress the outer leg all the way down, measure the oil height, and write it down.

Purchase some of the correct Ohlins oil now....

Invert the fork, and dump the oil out of the fork.

Pull the outer leg off, R&R the deals/scrapers, and reassemble.

I'm assuming you know how to refill, bleed, and set oil level...

Thanks Speeddog, exactly what I was looking for. I think the "deep" 14mm is the key for me ;-)

It is amazing the lack of information on these things out there.  It is as if Öhlins never thought anyone would ever actually want to service these them (almost as bad as Brembo but at least you can actually purchase seals for your forks).

As both of my forks had blown seals measuring an oil level that could never be right due to the leakage seems a bit daft. So my question is what it the fork oil level as set from the factory?

If anyone knows a wouldn't mind sharing this little pearl of wisdom, it would be greatly appreciated.

Perfect description. Worth mentioning the clip by the oil seal.
400ml is what I normally put in a 1100s fork.

Thanks. The problem with the 140 mm measurement is that this is with the spring removed but you don't need to remove the spring in order to replacement the seal.  Once the top cap is removed the outer tube can be removed and the seal replaced.  Removing the spring is an unnecessary step.

IIRC, there's an oil hole in the slider, such that when you pull the outer tube off, oil will spill out.

So, unfortunately, removing the spring is necessary to set the oil height correctly.

Just finished both and as redundant as removing the spring seems to be it is unfortunately necessary.  There is no way to get something down inside the tube to facilitate measuring the level without doing that.  As I had lost oil due to the leaky seals I used the 140 mm listed in the manual.

I can confirm there is a hole in the slider, got a bit ahead of myself on the second one and forgot to put the outer tube on before pouring the new oil in and end ed up with a nice puddle of expensive Öhlins oil on the floor.
