Seriously I worked with a guy who had a VW like that - I thought he had put it together himself - unless that pic was from Dallas it's scary to think there are more than one out there

That was a "standard" color option on those VW's when I graduated college in 1997.  The standard is in quotes because the while the colors were all standard, they would mix up which part was which color.  I had a friend of a friend buy one.

There were four different color versions of the VW Harlequin golf. What ever to roof color is is what the main color. They also came with different cloth seats, that had all the colors in the fabric. The Ross VW in the link before was near BMC Laconia, and being a vw fan have all four version sitting out on the lawn usually caught my eye when I drove by.
