Melvin's bike is a fantastic machine.
All yu need to do to it is drop the rear down as its jacked up like a dragster and it steers very quickly, almost too quickly. But that's an easy fix and would take 5 minutes really.

In other news I got mine back from D Moto with freshly repaired radiator.
Now it needs the attention of the Shitsus to give it some love.

Hopefully next weekend Damo!

The seat was a bit high for me too MV. Love those ohlins. Is it best to take it to someone to adjust? Or can I do it with standard tools. I'm no mechanic but love to tinker with monsters

So you've decided to buy it? If so, awesome, that thing is beautiful from the pics ive seen....

On a side note, I just make the beast with two backsed my centre stripe on the s4rs.. Was removing the old tank protector, got about half of it off when it suddenly lifted the stripe. Lifted parts then stuck together and folded, basically impossible to get unstuck. Heated it up some more and tried to push it out best I can, then proceeded to rip the decal.... bang head

Really pissed, simple job turned into a big headache.... I've just ordered a new set of decals, but I imagine I'll have to have the tank re cleared as well.

Anyone have an idea what a paint shop will charge me to reclear the tank?

Yeah mate hopefully next weekend!

If your going to clear coat over the stripes why not get the stripes painted on? Get a quote. I'll ask Melvin who he used

Awesome dude, you gotta be happy with that bike....

I was thinking of getting stripes painted, but it will probably add quite a bit to the bill, and I was hoping to keep it as low cost as possible. But yeah if you can recommend any painters, that's a start...

Thanks Brian, I'll be around shortly for a day of cleaning and love for the Monster.

Cicli, you'll need some suspension spanners to lower. You can also do it with flat heat screw drivers but that is the poor mans way and can also leave some damage.
I'm sure the guys at D Moto can have it done very quickly on a saturday morning.

With regard to painters there are a couple that are thought to be the most popular bike painters.

Screwdrivers won't help to change the length of the ride height rod though ... may also need to adjust the chain tension once the ride height is changed (so an eccentric spanner too).

And you pretend you don't know about bike mechanics.

Hahah that's my problem. I pretend I don't know mechanics exist and I screw something up. It's a good way of learning though!
It's only been 3 weeks and I miss riding so much!

After a small hiatus I actually rode the Monster today and further than just getting milk from the corner shop.
I had forgotten what an animal the S4Rs is, almost had a run in with the local HWP. Got the waive down coming into an 80 zone, seemed strange though cause of him popping out of the bushes! Anyways all good, did run it 30klm's into the reserve fuel light zone on the way home. Dam small fuel tank (had nothing to do with the use of the throttle) I have to say I was very rusty cornered like a beginner.....

I started investigating ways to keep the front tire down on the streetfighter S.  had some friends back home suggest easing off on the throttle, the daft bastards.  they'll not be missed.

here's what I tried so far:

  • accellerating - I must say, this was a dismal failure
  • ducati traction control - this helped, but lulled me to sleep, so I turned it off in the name of safety

what's next?  dual compound tires?  canadian backpacker on the handlebars as counterweight?  I'm all ears, people.
