At what rider weight is the Monster (S*R) sprung for?

I've heard that the Monster is sprung for an Italian teen at 150 - 170 lbs.  Is there any truth to that?  I am probably 145-150 with gear on.  Is there a need to change out the rear spring for different rate while I am swapping the S4R shock in?  or even for a different type of spring? 

Also, what's the concensus on front fork springs and/or revalve?  Not looking to race or anything.  Just twisties and the satisfaction of modding. :)

That about right. I believe the S4RS is sprung for 165 lbs.  15lbs light should be okay.  You could ease on the preload a bit to make sure you have the proper sag.

At 145-150 geared-up, you're OK with the stock springs.

They're not great, as the rear is a progressive spring and the OEM springs in your S2R1k are dual rate.

Hi, was just reading this post and had a couple of questions, I have a 07 s2r1k I am 200lbs with gear. I bought it last spring and have not been happy with the forks and springs. My tech told me that I need to re-spring the front but he said the rear is ok. At my size do I need to do both.

Need to clarify this a bit here.

S*R covers a few bikes, and they're not equipped with the same suspension.

S2R800 and S2R1000 are sprung similarly, progressive spring on the back, dual-rate springs on the front.
They're pretty softly sprung.
They can be re-sprung successfully.
The S2R800 forks leave a good bit on the table due to their crude design.
S2R1000 forks are fully adjustable and can be revalved.

S4R is sprung a good bit stiffer, epecially the front.
They can be re-sprung successfully.
S4R forks are fully adjustable and can be revalved, they're virtually identical to S2R1000 units, but are a bit more harshly valved.

S4Rt seems to be sprung about the same as the S4R.
Forks are physically a bit different but still fully adjustable, haven't been inside a set, but AFAIK, they're revalveable.

S4Rs is Ohlins front and rear.

At 200 lbs, you would be best off respringing both ends.

Thanks guys.  Sounds like a valve job and and maybe some better spring for rear shock will get it done.   [thumbsup]
