Didn't you buy that one from a dealer ?
If so it is his problem
Where is the leak , if it is around the hinge could be the result of a drop/repair incident if not
Steel tank pin hole sounds like rust , ebay probably the cheapest option ...start hunting if its not under warranty.

Where is it leaking from?
The steel tank on my S4R was leaking from a crack from the hinge plate. I have owned the bike since new and it has never been dropped or impacted in anyway. I was aware this was a weak point and used to siphon fuel from the tank before I lifted it up, and it still failed. I had that successfully repaired.
If it is leaking from a rust hole, the tank is probably corroded pretty badly inside and the whole thing may need replacing. There are heaps on eBay but their quality may be questionable.
California Cycle Works has some stuff and they are pretty helpful.

RR,
Mate, not good but not unfixable, I don't know how long you have owned the bike but being a 2003 model I wouldn't be holding out for a warranty replacement.
Anyway, if the dealer doesn't come to the party I suggest you get some POR-15, it's designed to repair tanks like yours with rust pin holes, make sure you follow the instructions to the letter, I've used it on my 1997 Monster as it started around the hinge(normal failure) and I've heard of badly rusted tanks being saved by this product.
From memory it cost around $65-$75 but that was back in 2005, good luck with it, keep us posted on how you go.

Thanks guys for the responses,
It leaking from a pin hole on the left side just above the top cylinder, yeah I have a price of $310 to get the tank welded and they put in a chemical called k somthing so it dosnt happen again, then I need to get the tank sprayed, so im expecting at the least 1k all up, as for warranty it is over the 3 months so not expecting anyhting there, its just a shame im copping it in the ass,
even if I buy a S/H unit I will need to get it painted so better off getting mine fixed?
Its just a pain in the ass....

Hi i have the same model and fixed up the rust with KBS Coatings ,Aussi made worked well ,my tank wasnt leaking ,but after it toppled in a car park ,stressed the hinge and started to leak, very common place to leak. i have heard they can be welded or solderd with out destroying the paint on the top side, Teff had his repaired in Sydney somwere.
KBS will fix the leak

check out this thread

I ended up buy a brand new tank from a guy on ebay from Italy $600 plus shipping about $200 and had it in 3 days
But only painted in red so had to get resprayed but if you can find the right colour way to go.better than 4k from Ducati here
Or you could put a plastic tank on but you will need to change the hinge and make shure you get the fuel pump with it.

Used this in my tank, 3 years ago (leaking around hinge) still going fine cost under $100,
that was to clean & seal tank.

Yeah Rob, I know Sean from D-Moto has a bloke 'just up the road' that does the repair, apparently you end up with a little scortch mark on the paint that is hidden where the seat meets the tank.
D-Moto also can get rockers repaired and oil/radiators too!

Had my old 750 tank leak (at hinge) repaired by Brad when he was at Moto1.
Would have to be at least 6-7 yearsv ago and have had no further troubles! Just make sure there is bugger all fuel in the tank when I raise it!
Where was it done Brad??

You could get a new tank, red with the white stripe and then get a white stripe for the rear cowl.
Or get a blank one to paint with the cowl and change the look of your bike completely. A word of warning though, this may be the catalyst to a sequence of events that may not have an end.

race radiators in dandenong, who now won't do it. brown davis in bayswater do, but charge a lot more and weld not solder.
if it's rusty cleaning it up will turn the pin hole into a huge hole. but it still can be an economical repair.
