Hey All! I just moved to Wichita Falls. I've got a 2007 Monster 695. About 13k miles. Pretty much totally stock, except bar end mirrors and I painted the pipes black. I got it about a year ago, but just now am getting enough time to really start learning all that I want (and should). Just thought I would say hi, and that I'm sure glad to find this board (and this site altogether).  coffee Learning a ton!

Anyone know of any place I can take the bike around Wichita Falls for service? If not, what's the best place (I'm assuming Dallas and AMS)? Thanks!

Howdy there, Dan.  Welcome to the DFWM forum.  I'm not familiar with the Wichita Falls area but there are three Ducati shops here in the metro mess.  My Duc(s) came from AMS (downtown Dallas) and still go there for service.  They've treated me well over the years.  I recommend them.

Beautiful riding weather here lately - have fun with your Monster.  It's a great looking ride  waytogo  If you hang out here often, you'll see we plan group rides on occasion.  Hopefully you can make it for one of those sometime soon.

Ride safe and have a blast!

Welcome.  AMS has treated me well.  i have a 08 695 i need to sell but when I get on it I can't sell it.  Too much fun to ride and too many mods added on Dolph  I'm Dan too btw

Thanks guys! Does anyone happen to be up north by me that has any experience with fuel system / throttle body adjustment. I have this slight backfire through my intake problem and I am trying very hard to solve this issue on my own hopefully with some help from one of you fine folks out there with some experience if someone would be so kind...  chug

Thank you. Yes, I have. That's how I diagnosed it as such a problem. They were very helpful. Now what I need is some local area expertise to see if I can get some help with fixing it...

just read through your thread in tech, looks to me like you need to definitely run the idle down from 1800, that's ridiculously too high.  Don't forget though, that once you mess with air bleeds, you need to resync the throttle bodies.  If the throttle screw was indeed messed with to adjust idle, that would be an issue and you would need to reset that screw and then adjust the TPS properly with the scan tool (I think richd has one, right??).

I would just recheck the throttle body sync as well, you never know what the mechanic may have done, it may have just been close when he checked and then when the idle was brought up, it could increase the out of sync situation, especially if the sync wasn't tested throughout the full rpm range. 

whatever the case, you will definitely need one of the scan tools, which isn't a bad purchase if you plan on keeping your bike for a bit and continue to plan to work on it yourself.

don't forget to do all the checks after the bike has come up to operating temps too

Thanks! Good stuff. Unfortunately, while I understand most of the basic concepts and am beginning to catch on with the rest, I would be completely lost trying all this myself. Example: I could adjust the bypass screws to get the idle down, but like you said, I have to resync the throttle bodies, which I have no idea about... Getting into it that deep sort of scares me... I don't have money to spend at a shop, but I would be more than happy to spend some on plenty of your favorite beer for passing on some expertise and knowledge to a young budding Ducatista (this is my first bike), for anyone who is willing...

unfortunately, I'm in Houston, a bit of a trek from wichita falls, but there are definitely some folks near you who could fumble about with you for beer (I say fumble about in the nicest, sincerest form of flattery this side of the red river of course  TongueDolph  chug

Good idea. I know a shop about a 9 months ago tried in vain to sync the throttle bodies because it wouldn't idle quite right. The reason it was in vain was because the valves were so off that he couldn't get any useful adjusting done. Now more recently, 3 months ago, another shop closer to me did the 15,000 mile service, after which they said it just wasn't running right (lean, etc). Turned out to be that the throttle bodies "were wayyy off." bang head I hadn't the knowledge to understand exactly what they did at the time, even if they told me. And since I don't know what is involved in syncing throttle bodies, I can't imagine which adjustments were made. However, tomorrow in the daylight I'll take a look (basically expecting the worst). Meanwhile, I'm trying to do my homework and get smart on the subject coffee by reading this: http://www.bikeboy.org/ducati2vthrottleb.html, provided to me by Brad the Bike Boy.  waytogo

yeah, brad and howie are great resources here so keep following their advice

synching throttle bodies is not a big deal, you'll need some kind of sync tool (basically linked manometers).  I have the twinmax tool which is fantastic.  lots of folks use the motionpro ones too.  Or you can just make your own with colored liquid, tubing, and a measuring stick.  I did that for a bit, but then bought the twinmax after not too long...
