I love mine. I drove 19 hours round trip to buy it. Had a hell of a time too. It's one of those bikes that I hope I never have to get rid of... although at some point, I would love to tear it down and refresh it.

Maybe some truth to that..., for a while. They are smooth and swift. Only had a 4-valve for three years and sold it before I found that tree with my name on it.
Picture following a row of six cars at 55 MPH for several miles and passing all six on a long straight with one downshift and reading 140 on the clock when you pull back into line...
You might miss the heartbeat of your 2-valve and the 4-valve is about half. Usually the center of gravity is higher too, depending on how sensitive you are to that.
Borrow one for the day some Sunday and see what you think. You might also find my 803 different than your 800 too.
the differences in your 796 motor and my s2r800 motor are minor, same 803cc mill afaik

Pretty sure it's all fueling changes.

Not sure. Yours is 10.5:1 vs 11.1:1 for the 796; also 77 vs 87 claimed BHP and 53 vs 58 ft.lbs. The 796 is definitely making big "bangs" at idle, enough to blow your cap off if you walk past the rear of the bike.
The sales pitch was more power due to unspecified efficiencies, making dual-spark unnecessary. No idea but probably somewhat different.

No clue. Ask Donnie maybe? Anyone in CAM with a 796 you can ride? I'll wager there are more differences. The front wheel is very planted. Still nimble but not twitchy in the least.

Same displacement, but major differences.
796 has the 'DS style' heads with the plain bearing cams and short exhaust port.
Valves are different part numbers.
Likely the ports have been updated to the 'DS style'.
796 has the new thinwall cases.

Or you could buy my S4 that is currently in pieces. Flaking paint on the engine, 5 flaking rockers that need replaced, and a whole lot of other flaky shit going on. I'll sell it cheap. Dammit. Thanks for letting me vent.

I've got one. My brother dropped it, really, at about 5 mph. Ding in the tank. Handlebar kit. Ohlins remote shock. Race Tech forks, 26,000 miles. I'm in the process of putting a new sprag clutch for the starter in it. I ride it and it looks like it. It's kind of dusty, there are scratches on the wheels because I change them myself. It eats rear tires, and the fronts don't last too long either. Leo Vince pipes, it sounds good. Radial clutch master cylinder. Is it worth $4500 to you? It runs like a sumpregnant dog, it handles very well, it doesn't do anything it shouldn't, other than the starter sprag issue, it's been dead nuts reliable for almost 4 years that I've had it, although when I bought it, it ate the fuel pump wiring within 10 minutes, it was rubbing on the rear cylinder head. Right at the moment, I'm going to put a new or maybe used starter sprag in it, I just put a starter wiring upgrade from Motolectric in it (thanks Micheal), I'm going to freshen up the shock with the guys from the Forkman at Central Coast Suspension, and it's almost time for another rear tire, I'll probably do that too. This past summer, I did a 500 mile day on it, never missed a beat, I ride it to work almost daily (hey, I'm in California), and I have never kept a bike this long. If it sells, KTM Superduke is in the picture. If it doesn't, I might buy one anyway.
This bike hauls a$$. If the road is a fairly low speed road, the excellent suspension, combined with the light weight, and stompin power, make it hard to beat. Oh yeah, last year on the dyno, it pulled an honest 95hp and 67lb ft of torque. Not bad for a 916.
Almost forgot, valves were inspected at 23,000 miles, everything was in spec, belts replaced, too.

Well, I just looked at Kelly Blue Book. Excellent condition is $4600 or so. Mine isn't excellent, but the nice ones that I see are about $6000 or $7000. Make an offer if interested, but I seriously doubt if it will sell, so I'll probably just ride it forever. The Ducati dealer didn't want to take it in trade for a new Multistrada.
