Which Penske?

For a hoop style Monster 93-01. Which Penske shock do you recommend? Which models fit the old framed Monster?
Lindeman Engineering have the basic 8900E for Monsters for $625. It only has preload, rebound and ride height adjustment and is their entry unit, but it surely has to be superior to the stock Sachs. Then there are the higher end models for big bucks and some in between.
I have spent that much on my Sachs/Boge shock tesing springs, getting it rebuilt, shaft rechromed, revalved, remote Kayaba cannister and compression damping added. It's been worked and I may sell it to someone who takes their Monster to the track. My Monster is for casual riding.
What I like about Penske is that they speak English, appear to have good service back up, with opportunity to add features later and that you buy them with American dollars.

FWIW, even though he is on the other side of the world from you, drop Rick from
www.motocd.com
an Email...he is Penske and Ohlins certified and despite his crude website, he
KNOWS
suspension...tell him your weight(with and without gear on) and how you ride and all conditions and he can help you with the best reccomendations....he is a super nice guy and highly knowledgable....you won't regret it.

AFAIK, Penskes are built to order.
So, for example, you tell them you want an 8900 to fit a '95 M900.
They are upgradeable, so you don't *have* to buy the top of the line.
Preload is adjustable with a piece of 1/4" rod, rather than a f@#king spanner wrench.

Penske on hold now. Bike trailer died, fortunately didn't kill the Gixxer it was carrying.

Well, if you change your mind, I have a Penske 8900 for a 2003 M900. I bought it from a guy who said it was from an S2R1000 but it's the wrong shock for my bike. Let me know if you're interested.

my penske was also custom ordered to my weight etc. looking back, i should have put that on my triumph instead of my small 620 monster.
glad your gixxer survived the trailer accident. (mine was not so lucky -

) curious to know what happened to yours?

Just to keep the joke rolling....
If the shock will fit an '02 M900, it will fit your S2R1000...unless it has an unfortunately placed piggyback reservoir.
Is it a piggyback style?

No, it has the remote reservoir. However, the overall length and stroke are different. It will fit but according to the techs at Penske, it will change the handling characteristics of the bike

For all intents and purposes, the '02 M900 and your S2R1000 were fitted with identical shocks at the factory.
If the shock was for an '01 M900, that would explain the different length and stroke.

Trailer started to sag due to its advanced age. Nothing fell off, but its going to the scrap yard now. Bike was still on solid! Will get a custom one made.
Trailer has been getting lighter every year! Motorcycle acronym, ACWS. The Advanced Chemical Weightloss System!
