Hey guys, I recently changed the springs on my Monster and after installing them and taking it out for a spin I noticed that the pressure plate floats freely when the bike is in gear w/the clutch pulled in.

If I release the clutch the pressure plate engages and all is well, shifting and changing gear is fine, I just want's sure if this is normal.

Thanks.

When the bike is in gear, the pressure plate is hooked to the rear tire.

The only time it spins is when the rear tire spins.

If you start your bike in gear, will the pressure plate spin? Or will it just free float until you disengage the clutch?

it is free floating, so it will stop eventually, you could stick a hand in there and just stop it yourself if you wanted to. It might continue to spin gently too but thats okay, unless your bike feels like its going to stall.

OK - so that's normal.  Like I said, I changed the clutch springs and I didn't remember if the PP behaved that way or not before the change.

Thanks for confirming.

Hence I said "when the bike is in gear."

 Wink

And no, if you start your bike in gear with the clutch lever pulled the pressure plate won't spin.

Again, if the bike's in gear, the only time the pressure plate spins is when the rear tire spins.
