I just got back from Road Atlanta where we ran the new bike course (first track company to do so), a couple of observations.
1. The walls are still way too close!
2. The chicane after turn 3 sucks a$$, it's not a knee down corner and is incredibly slow and tight with a large pothole on the inside of the turn to discourage corner cutters (and bottom out front forks).
3. The new turn 12 is horrendous, it's still a leap of faith to go balls out under the Suzuki bridge with your front wheel in the air and a 5 story drop on the other side, but that's where the fun ends. The new turn is a 2nd gear, slow, narrow right turn with (now get this) a huge dip right at the apex of the corner. Anyone trail braking into that turn will lowside there for sure. Because the approach is so steep the forks are nearly compressed to maximum already and this huge bump mid turn will finish off what ever compression you have left.
All this is all the more amazing considering that it is brand new asphalt!!
Mladin will hate it.
(oh and btw, it added 8 seconds on average to my lap times
)
