All I want to know is if I can pull the rear foot lever with plunger out of the master cylinder or if oil is going to piss everywhere if I do so.

I recently snapped the lever off the bike leaving the mounting screw thread in the bracket, I have removed the bracket and would like to pull the lever out of the master cylinder just so it's not hanging there. Should I take the rubber cover off with it or just leave it there?

Thanks for any advice.

Leave the rubber boot, and pull the plunger out.
It won't leak unless the master has blown seals.

When you reinstall everything, make *sure* there is some freeplay in the lever.

Thanks for the advice Speeddog! I'm at the point where I'm reinstalling everything and cannot figure out how the return spring is supposed to be put on. I've tried it about 3 different ways and can't seem to work it out. Normally I'd know because of how it came off but in this case it just popped right off the bike without even a chance for me to see where it was.

At the moment I'm sandwiching it between the lever and the bracket, is this wrong?

It goes between the lever and the bracket, one end hooks on a nub on the bracket, the other end hooks on the pedal.

Perhaps your spring got FUBARed?
