The bike is 2012 M1100evo, 490miles.
Running on 93oct gas. when i let go the throttle it backfires. Does the same thing running on 89oct or 87oct gasoline...
It backfires same as my 02 M750 with full arrow exhaust .
is any 1100evo owner experiencing the same thing?  [Dolph]

They do that. Nothing to do with octane. Break the bike in and it will probably do it less and less provided you don't have an exhaust leak somewhere. Have the dealer check that at the first service.

ok i will . anyway i have to bring it in to them so they reset the computer ....
i was thinking it has smth to do with the fuel/air ratio...

It's not stock? Why reset? Reflash the ECU for what reason? Details...

If there is unburned fuel in the exhaust it will pop on trailing throttle.

yes its stock .
ok, so from what i remember , the dealer told me that i  have to bring it in for the 600miles service and they will reset the computer bcos from what he said , ducati put a rev limiter
that only goes up to 8000rpms for the break in period... after the reset it will go up to 12000rmps .. (didnt put the rpms higher than 6500 so far so i wouldnt know if thats true)
also when the ``maintenance wrench`` that pops out on the screen cant be taken away without plugging a computer on ...
now, to me the 600miles service is smth that i can do myself .. and i really DO NOT want to pay from 270-300$ at the dealer ...
i ve been told that if i do this service on my own it doesnt void the warranty so im good .. these computer things are messing me up .. any advice?

He was probably talking about the first oil change. The engine light comes on around 600 miles and you have to go to a dealer to get it reset. It should only go on at the specified intervals that require service (check your manual) unless something is wrong. Some dealers will charge for the reset and others will do it for a few bills.

i understand that. and i know the intervals.. but i can do everything myself .. like i did on my M750...
they made these new models so computerized .. just so they rip us off... :(
does your 796 backfire from the exhaust??

OK, that makes more sense. Hope you have a decent dealer. It's true that DNA wants a readout of your ECU parameters at the 600 mile service. Not sure about that rev limiter stuff. Maybe you didn't hear correctly, but they WILL reset all the parameters in the ECU. I watched while my dealer did mine and checked a few things I'd mentioned. Of course they reset the maintenance symbol. BTW, they can only do that after the wrench symbol displays and not before.

With the new bikes, you are stuck with the dealer. They might charge you less if you change your oil and filter yourself. Do you have the tools to adjust your chain? A good dealer will go over the bike thoroughly. Everything on the bike runs through that ECU, so until someone comes out with software which can do what the dealer's handheld does, you really can only do "nuts and bolts" yourself.

And yes, it's true that you don't void the warranty if you change your oil and filter, but you DO void it if you screw anything up.  8) If THEY screw it up, you're covered. ;) Most bikes cost to maintain correctly, Ducatis a bit more due to the belts and valves and what has to be removed to access everthing. They are light and tight which means that stuff you need to reach is not out in the air staring at you.

Just curious. If you bought a modern European car, would you attempt to maintain that yourself too? The computers are there to meet the emissions standards while keeping the power. It's complicated. Nobody is trying to rip you off. Not possible to meet EPA with carbs for years now.

BTW, a backfire is a BIG BANG, like a gunshot. If yours does that, it's not normal. If it pops a bit on trailing throttle, that will mostly disappear with some miles.

Raux

There a couple of aftermarket setups that can reset the wrench and more

Yes, you are absolutely right... Nowdays we all depend on electronics...
The backfire mostly happens when I let go the throttle from and im on 2nd gear..
It would go : bam, bam, bam and couple of quiter bams after..

Thats just the standard popping on decell you get with the new monsters.  It'll clear up a bit when you get the bike broken in, but it's because of the bike running lean due to emissions

It does it really bad with the full Termi setup as well.

You may have heard them wrong about the RPM limiter. 12000rpm is really high for that size of motor, not to mention you don't make power that high. No reason to go past the 8K with a stock motor...

I have 550 miles on mine. It sounds like a string of firecrackers going off whenever I release the throttle. I expect it to improve, though it doesn't really bother me. My inner hooligan actually kind of likes it.  :)

The 1100evo hits max torque @ 6000 rpm and max hp @ 7500 rpm. That would put the redline ~8000-8500 rpm. Also, given the mileage on yours (which is similar to mine), the following rev limits apply:

First 600 miles: 5500-6000 rpm
600-1500 miles: 7000 rpm
1500+ miles: pull out in the fast lane and hit the gas

It doesn't bother me at all... Just wanted to know if it was normal or not thats all...
Probably I heard them wrong abt the rpm limiter or they bullshited me .. One or another .. Im not the high rpm guy... 6000Rpms is more than enough for me .. This bike is a beast.. :) so when r u going to bring urs in for the 1st service .. If u do in the next week or two please let me know what they did ect. Thank you :)
