So one day my 93 M900 wouldnt start. Starter turned over once and then nothing.  Checked everything switches relays coils wiring fuses and all appears ok.  Ive dismantled everything in the process and have only the starter to check  which is still attached to motor. Question is what is the best way to test starter without removing it from the engine. Can I just give it 12v directly (+ to starter post - to case) without damaging anything ? My head says yes my heart says make sure and ask.

Run a jumper cable from the battery positive to the starter motor.
