I've had this problem on and off for a bit now, the bike is my near every day commuter in the summer so yes it has been driven in the rain, it has been parked in the rain, it has been throughly soaked.  The issue I'm having is that I'm not alway able to turn the key once it is inserted?  It can take me anywhere from 5-15 minutes of fiddling around looking for that nanometer of a sweet spot to get it to trun, and this seems to only be to turn it on, turning it off is just fine.

Any ideas? suggestions?

Cheers.

Harley drivers in short/t-shirts/and salad bowls .... make me laugh.

Try wiggling the forks a bit.  Sometimes when the key is in the fork lock positon, it jams a little bit unless you wiggle the handlebars.
Let us know if that cures the problem.
(ps - same thing with my Toyota - sometimes have to wiggle the steering wheel)

and lube it ;)

lube the lock with a little graphite powder on the key

makes a huge difference
i dont care if you have been a mechanic for 10 years doing something for a long time does not make you good at it, take my gf for an example shes been walking for 28 years and still manages to fall over all the time.
