I have owned a 98 M900 for three years now...its has been a great bike. But, I have always wanted a SBK ...749-1198 anything in between. Problem is my bank account doesn't support this "want" nor does my riding needs. Mostly commuting 13 miles & a lot of 35-45 mph riding. So I have been thinking more about a 2000-2004? SS Duc Thought I would get some opinions from the forum. Tell me your thoughts... Thanks ![chug](http://ducatimonsterforum.org/Smileys/classic/beerchug.gif)

The SS is a great bike...and more like an SBK in riding position and the fact it is faired.
I loved my Terblanche 750 on the track...
That said I'd keep the Monster for your riding needs.

Why...riding position or engine performance etc?

I was fortunate to own both at the same time and ending up using the SS for the twisties and track only. The monster is absolute superior for commuting, especially in slow traffic.

I've been thinking of the same thing...mainly for the track and weekend hill country twisties. Are there any years to stay away from, or years to really search out? I can pick up a '93 for under $3K that needs a little TLC.

You really want the model with the fully adjustable front forks and aluminum swing arm. This is a 93 SS with a 750 F1 seat and fairing. ![](http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae249/Veloce-sa/F1/614ba047.jpg)

That is really cool looking...kind of a cross between a sport classic and superbike. There is one for sale near me that needs some work...engine runs but smokes a little while cold (maybe valve guide seals?) and carbs need rebuilding. looks very clean, less than 20k miles. might be a fun project and track bike. If I can get a good deal on it I might just grab it.

The early SS has a problem with the frame breaking near the steer tube and head studs breaking. Neither problem is a deal breaker if the price is right.

FYI...Honolulu has no track
