Faulty ECU?

looks like my 2006 S2R 800 has a faulty ECU. Riverside tested it in the fall and found it was randomly kicking out nonsense error messages. It is usually fine in the rev ranges I tend to keep it in, but problem zone in the mapping seems to be widening. There is some occasional stumbling in the lowers gears, and this past weekend on the way home from a ride she decided that WOT in 6th gear meant topping out at 5500 RPM, with occasional drops to 5000 and surges over 6000. I haven't done any exhaust, engine or airbox mods, so I'm looking for a replacement that will work with my stock setup. I know that something like the Fat Duck O2 Manipulator or the Power Commander would help if my ECU wasn't faulty, but I'm not sure how well they would work with an ECU that is actually faulty. I know the full termi system includes the DP ECU, but I can't see putting that kind of $ on the credit card right now.

Suggestions?

There are "flashed" ECU units available for roughly $550. Check Gotham-Cycles or Houston Superbikes out. There is a "slip-on" system DP flash OR the full system one. Perhaps opening up your airbox lid and going with the slip-on ecu might work out?

just throwing darts at the wall here. i also suffer from a slightly defunct ECU... but at my own fault... so i've been searching for replacement options for down the line.

I suggest you get a second opinion before searching for a new ECU.

If either of you do replace your ECU, please let me buy the broken one from you.  I'm just so itching to open one, though having looked long and hard at mine, I can't see a way to do that without risking damaging it...  So trying it on a pre-broken one would be awesome.

I promise I'll post up lots of pictures of the process, too.

going with a DP ECU from http://www.ducatidepot.com/ and having Riverside Motosports do the TPS reset for me. Can't wait to have my baby running right again!

Do you park outside? I do, and my bike was doing similar things until I let it sit inside for a week to dry out.  Re-routed/replaced some wiring and connectors and I've been trouble free since.

The thing I hate most about ECU's is that there is not test to check that they are working correctly. All you can do is test and fix everything it's connected to, only after all that fails can you say it's the ECU. Even then, you can never be 100% until you replace it and test again.
