Flushing the coolant system

Waiting for a few shims to come in before I can put the bike back together.

In the meantime, I'd like to take care of a few other things.

While I had the heads off, I couldn't help but notice some nasty shit in the areas where coolant flows through. Figure I should go ahead and try to flush that outta' there.

For all you 4 valve guys, what has been the best way to do it?

I just used plain water to flush and drained it from the pump several times. You could use a chemical flush safe for aluminum.

The crud is from the steel pieces in the system.

Once I started maintaining the system the crud stopped appearing

Is the entire loop open all the time?

The pump is constantly spinning with the rotation of the motor right?

Sounds like there is nothing special about it. Flush it out and be merry  ;D

I just filled and drained several times

Mine won't be running. I just want to make sure that there isn't a valve anywhere that opens with high temps to allow the system to flow

Oh...

No valve besides the t-stat which won't prevent draining.

There are spots in the cylinders that don't drain. That's why multiple fill/drains are required.
